What other fictional beings should movies be made about?

Vampires are out. Way overdone.

Werewolves get lots of action, though most of it's not very good.

So my question to you is, besides werewolves and vamps, what other legendary creatures should movies be made about?

Well there's Urufu and Wolfboy and.... er... wait, you mean fictional beings I don't own.

Okay, well, there's Kitsune, which I find to be fairly interesting.

Gargoyles. I'd like to see a horror movie about the Manticore, too; envision it as a sort of Hindu Faust-type thing (manticores were supposed to be from India).

Dragons, other were-beats from their own native culture's aspect, some of the native american tribes have awesome legends that wuold make for a good movie or three! Such a rich heritage! :)

I would love to see the following mythical creatures playing major movie roles:

-centaurs
-unicorns or pegasi
-dragons
-griffins
-chimeras
-minotaurs
-other werebeasts

I could happily live my entire life without seeing another vamp movie. Ugh.

Same here. I own the sequel, and used to own the original (before mother taped it over with some weird Chinese movie...). Anyone know any video stores who still carry the orginal Dragonheart? Or shall I try my luck with Ebay?

Dragons, griffins, centaurs, and unicorns would make good movies if done correctly methinks.

Oh. How about the chubacabra? I saw a couple of movies already done of this mythical beast, but I haven't seen them yet.[/url]

I'd like to see a movie featuring...
Griffins
Dragons(Dragonheart! Whooo!)
Centaurs
Gargoyles(the series was AWSOME!)
Unicorns(I heard a live action 'The Last Unicorn' is going to be made)
Wereanimals
Chimeras
Phoenix
Sphynxs

And of course, a movie about said creature(s) where they are are not crazy, evil, bloodthirsty, and the-heroic-humans-must-destroy-it

Are there any movies about selkies? They deserve exactly one.
There are three full-length live action movies, "The Secret of Roan Inish", "Selkie" (an obscure Australian film) and "The Seventh Stream" (a made-for-TV romance). There is also an "animated" short film called "The Selkie Girl". I say "animated" because, even though it is supposed to be animated, I never saw any of the pictures move.

My top choices for other mythical creatures in movies would be:
-More werebeasts other than werewolves
-Tengu (who are also shapeshifters)
-dragons (there are only a couple of decent movies that focus on dragons)
-Bigfoot (there is only one decent Bigfoot film. We need more!)
-The bear-dogs of headless valley
-mermaids and mermen
-giant animals in movies that are not horror (like in "Princess Mononoke")
-non-shapeshifting beast people (i.e. standard "furries") in works that are not aimed at children

I never knew gargoyles were actual mythical creatures. I thought they were just made up for the cartoon. But the cartoon was very awesome. If you ever wanna read some really good gargoyles fanfic, go here:

http://tgs.gargoyles-fans.org/

It's excellent work, and has some cool pictures.

Also, LIVE ACTION THE LAST UNICORN?! SWEET!!

The Unicorns in "Legend" were great. They used a couple Andalusian stallions who were friends (you could tell by the way they interacted with each other).

A friend of mine wrote a whole story on "the secret life of statue-beings." They were called the Children of Pygmalion. The plot revolved around a gargoyle in love with a statue of an angel. A movie about gargoyles would probably read like a vampire movie since their lives are measured in decades and centuries instead of days and months. Even if the action never left the main character's home locus, it would be an epic.

H'mm...the muse is calling... :read2:

Have you seen "Reign of Fire"?

Great post-modern/apocalypse movie. Humanity really gets screwed in this one, nothing cool like cars and ruins to hide in and isolated pockets of civilization or even a "semi-sympathetic outcast from the Bad Guys' side that helps the protagonists bring down the evil regime." Everything gets fried and the humans have to shift for themselves however way they can, like mice.

Again, I like Kitsunes, largely because they're sorta the reverse of werewolves, animals who become human (as well as a ton of other things) and have human-like minds.

Lotsa potential there.

Demons would be kinda cool. Particularly an incubus or a succubus.

If you don't know what those are, they're basicall sex demons.

Tho' I love werewolves, and I don't think they have yet been given their due (film wise).. I think dragons are awesome! I've read many a dragon novel, and own a few illustrated books, and merchandise since I was a wee pup.

Dragons (much like werewolves) have mostly been portrayed in movies as monsters. I hope film makers will listen to fans (like ABrownrigg did) when conceiving thier Dragon based projects.
