I'm going to wait on both systems. I'm not sure how much money I'm going to need for the trip up to Dallas.

I've got an iPod so I'm not really in the market for a portable.

But I am waiting for the Playstation 3! Some of the rumor's I've heard include:

*16x9 native AR format for games
*based on Sony's Blu-Ray disk for 1080p games, playing Blu-Ray movies, and still being backwards DVD/CD/PS/PS2 compatible
*native 6.1 audio for games

Another component to add to my home theater. :D

I hope that 6.1 is DTS-ES discrete.

UGH, after seeing this, I don't think the PSP is worth it.

This will not work in window media. Try Divx.

I should note, Sony has pretty much announced that the PS3 will not be backwards compatable with the PS1. The reason for this is appearently two-fold. The first being that adding a third procceser that mimics the PS1 as well as the PS2 would dramatically increase the price.

The second, being that Sony wants people to have a reason to keep thier old PS2's around. So that people keep buying PS2's even when the PS3 is out of the market and PS2's only cost 50 bucks a piece.

As for the PSP, it looks good, and Nippon Ichi as well as SquareEnix seem to be focusing on turning it into a really well equiped RPG machine, however, I'll likely wait till either the price drops or they improve the battery life slightly.

As for the DS, it's nifty but both the games and the portable itself are over-priced. Nintendo's actually making a significant profit on each DS sold, which is unheard of for a new video-game machine, typically, companies take a loss on each console sold for the first six months or so of the systems shelf life. They make that money back on licensing and such of games.

As for the games, although they have a higher storage space, they do actually cost less to mass-produce then the Gameboy Advance carts, yet you have to pay nearly 40 dollars for each game. That's unprecedented in this industry, 4 years ago, you would NEVER have seen a portable game for a Gameboy console cost more then 25 bucks. Even the Nintendo GBA games rarely go over 30 dollars a pop.

So on both ends you're being ripped off on a system that Nintendo admits to be a sideshow.

Though granted, the DS has some really interesting features that COULD be used in some really fun games. However, I'll be waiting for Nintendo to bring the price down to some more resonable level.

...Why, yes, video-gaming is one of my many obsessions, why do you ask?

i can't wait for the PS3. I hope its not that expensive when it comes out. I also hope its home theater friendly right out of the box. With the X-box. you have to by an adapter for HDTV's and digital surround.
