Color blindness

I'm pretty sure this wasn't asked, so...
I've heard that some animals, including canines, are colorbilnd. Human's aren't, which leads me to this question: What colors would a werewolf see? Would they only see certain colors (ex. everything but red & green), or would they see the colors as greyish and washed out? Or maybe they would see exactly like a wolf (100% colorblind), or is there no change at all? Please post your opinions on this.

That dogs are completely colorblind is actually a myth. They can see certain colors, and hints of others. Same with wolves. I think werewolves would probably see more color than a wolf, maybe as much as a human, but more intense. Capable of crisper detail, and better night vision. Plus they have their sense of smell and hearing to rely on.

This was discussed a bit in another thread. Wolves aren't 100% colorblind. They have two sets of cones and their vision would be approximately the same as someone with red-green colorblindness.
Their visual spectrum looks something like this:
I don't see any reason why the cones would disappear in a shift, so I figure that the would have full color vision, but reds and greens would be washed out.

Only 9? There has to be more than that.

Probably, but IIRC "9 essential vitamins and minerals" is the slogan.

I think they should see somrthing inbetween the canine and human color spectum.
Maybe in gestalt form, they would still see colors as humans do.

Because of biology and the laws of physics, it's either one or the other. Either you can have a large iris and many rods, and good night vision. Or you have a smaller iris, fewer rods, and better acuity. Multiple rods are connected to a single neve cell, which increases their senitivity, but decreases resolution.

well, whatever colors they see and don't see, I don't want to see the world from the werewolf's point of view. Once is ok. But not several dozen times in the film.
To me, its like hollywood's cheap way of doing a werewolf scene. The werewolf is there, but you don't get to see him.

I think in this respect (as in most others), werewolves should have the best of both the human and wolf worlds. They would see at least as well as humans with whatever enhancements wolf eyes might add into the mix.

Canines can detect movement with their eyes much better than we can, and they can also see in the dark. I'd like for them to have the best of both worlds, but if they can't, I lean more towards canine. It just seems like canine vision would be more useful than regular human vision. If I were a werewolf, I'd rather sacrifice some of the color in my gestalt form's vision to gain the advantages of the canine vision that will make me a better predator.

Yep. Even colorblind people don't see the world in tones of grey. Only black and white photographs or television actually show the world that way.
Also, colors would not necessarily look "washed out" even though they would be washed out. Colorblind people often see colors as quite "colorful" and vivid, they just can't tell which colors they are. Remember, the real source of color is in the brain. So a werewolf with canine-vision might not realize the colorblindness had happened until making a choice based on color (hey, I know I left my red shirt on the grass here, why is it so hard to pick it out now... oh wait, duh!).

Well, there is a type of colorblindness where they can only see intensity (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Color_blind#Monochromacy) but it's not as common as the other types.

I figure it would be like wearing tinted sunglasses: You can tell at first, but when you start doing things, you stop noticing, and to really see the difference, you have to pay attention.

Hmmm....I'm wondering if General Mills is trying to make up for it by having a new character on Cookie Crisp. Have you seen him?
