DOMAIN NAME CHANGE COMING SOON!!
Posted: Wed Oct 12, 2005 1:46 pm
by ABrownrigg
Today is October 12th. I am currently backing up all data including these boards for a change of servers that will happen in the next couple days. I'm not sure if this will cause any problems, but in case it does, just know that soon enough
www.longlivethepack.com will be the only way to access.. It will happen.. It will happen.. I'm closing down this particular server more than likely in the next couple days.
I will keep everyone updated.
Sincerely,
Anthony Brownrigg

Hmm...just to be on the safe side. I'll do a backup as well.

Another important note, everyone:
http://longlivethepack.com
and
http://www.longlivethepack.com
are different!
Take note and consider yourself warned!
(Can anyone else verify this for me? As far as I can tell, the first one leads to wereanimal.net instead.)

Confirmed, I get the same thing. I didn't know that sort of thing was possible, but it's certainly the case now.
Anyway, cool! I ran into that domainname a while back and couldn't work out why what was there was so half-completed; I'll be looking forward to the completed site, as the design currently looks wonderful, and the links-to-nowhere are quite promising.

I would venture to guess that they're using Apache's name-based virtual hosting, and while they have the redirect in
www.longlivethepack.com they don't have the proper ServerAlias for longlivethepack.com, so it's serving up the default page.

Odd.
http://longlivethepack.net/
and
http://longlivethepack.org/
also leads to Wereanimal.net
weird.

Is there anyway we can take those domain names from them? It seems more appropriate that we should have them.

I assume you will leave a temporary page re-directing browsers to the new page at the old URL for a while for those who may be away right now and don't know about the domain change.
If you just shut it down completely...anyone who happens to be unable to log on in the next week or so will not know what happened to thier favorite web-forum and think we've all dissapeared or something.
...the conflicting domain name is a bit odd though. Do you think the owners of "wereanimal.net" might complain...or even try to force us to change it? (they did have it first, after all)

Yeah, you're right. It's time to come up with something else other than "Long live the pack" ..
any domain suggestions?

...exept, if you click the "theoretical" link you just posted, it allready leads to a page of links to various products containing the word "Pack".
Comming up with a good domain name that is not allready taken will be tough, I think.
Allthough...maybe the owner of that page would be willing to sell it to us for a modest fee, as it seems to be a generic, word catching page anyway.
THEPACK.com would be ideal if we could get it, I think.

And
http://www.thepack.org/
...I'm not even quite sure what this is.
It seems to be a page related to a Werewolf RP of some kind...I think.
