So... petting a werewolf's tail, is the same as touching someone's butt? :o

dogs and wolves roll in poop every now and again anyway i dont think they would really care about a fart smell. do they even think a certain smell is bad or just new, differant or interesting? a werewolves fart maybe would just be a more extreme of its own natural scent. it could maybe be, say, ode-de-lycan?

New and interesting probably. Wolves also try to scent roll in scented shampoo and perfume.

Well, getting back on topic...

I designed my werewolf characters with tails because it makes for a great animation device. I use them to convey attitude, to accentuate a pose, and even to ACT in some cases.

A tail can also provide really cool overlapping action when the character moves, or fights, or whatever. Even if the character stops moving, the tail can follow the arc of the body movements.

Without a tail...you might as well just have a plain old person. You have a wolf head, a wolf body, wolf legs, but no tail? That doesn't make any sense to me. From a design standpoint, it's an INCOMPLETE character, in my humble opinion.

You know...I always see a lack of the tail in hollywood werewolf movies. But I always see a tail in animated wolf/werewolf characters. Why is that?

FangFace had a tail. The werewolf in Drac Pack had a tail. I could list more. Is Hollywood avoiding the tail for some reason? To difficult to animate? To expensive? Not life like? I'd like to know.

Maybe it has something to do with the clothing issue...if it had a tail then they would have to accomodate the clothing to allow for the tail or they would have na unsightly bulge in the rear ........

So wear pants backwards. Anyway...
Realistically, I'd imagine that the reason they usually don't post it is because they have their own preconceptions about what it should be, and they don't want to irritate anyone. Despite the fact that it's loss is also irritating.
Basically, a cop-out.
You can run, you can hide, but I'll still pounce on you and lick you silly.
