Veterans day is just around the corner...

I thought that it might be prudent of me to ask who here is (or was) in the Service. Being both a member of the VFW and the American Legion (at the old age of 24) reminds me that there are a lot of veterans, some of whom only came home to protests, or who fought in wars that were misunderstood.
So, who here has served, and in what branch were you in?

Dad is a chief in the Navy, soon to retire. Sadly, one he retires, he'll be moving to Louiville, Kentuky.... 2 states away.... blah...

Somehow I don't think being in ROTC in high school counts.
So not me.

Not to burst your bubble Anubis, but I like the fact that you use the quote of an Army general in your signature.

It's funny, because your dad was in the air force, and you're planning on being a marine, but your quote is from an army guy.

um, i think you forgot the 'didn't serve' option
otherwise everyone that takes the poll will have to post that they served.

*sigh* i guess not.
well, i haven't served, and neither has my dad or mom. but i found out that my grandfather on my dads side was one of the guys who raised the flag at iwo jima, i THINK that's the place, the raising of the flag that was made into the statue. HE WAS THERE! and my grandma has a picture of that moment. i also found out that there were TWO raisings. the first was with a flag that the soldiers had been carrying and had gotten dirty and grimy. the SECOND one was for the photo op and with a clean flag delivered later.

To answer your question Celtwolf, the "If I told you I'd have to kill you" option is one anyone can use. We learn a bit of new history all the time Celtwolf, classified or de-classified.

Ha I thought it was a seals saying, oh well, one of my favorite military saying is semper fi and who dare, wins. I think thats how it goes, but it has a pretty cool meaning.

"Semper Fidelis" is latin for Always Faithful.

I don't know the meaning of that saying off the top of my head - try googling it.
