Let the CG battles commence!

One interesting thing about CG movies is that they don't waste time with the teaser trailers. 2006 is looking to be an interesting year -- the year of the werewolf, and the year of the CGs.

ICE AGE 2
OVER THE HEDGE
HAPPY FEET
OPEN SEASON
MONSTER HOUSE
CARS
BARNYARD
THE ANT BULLY

And get this, these are only the movies I could find trailers for. Apparently there are four other CG movies due for release in 2006 as well: Foodfight, The Wild, Yankee Irving, and Meet the Robinsons (so be on the look-out for trailers).

Oh yeah. I guess that late in the year would make it next year's release more or less. :grinp:

I like CGI movies...but I like the old Disney cartoons as well. It saddens me greatly that the end of that genre is near....if not here already.

I'm inclined to disagree since about one fifth of my DVD collection is CG, but if it seems that way, it's probably because for every good movie, there are two or three more trying to freeload on the CG ticket.

That and the fact that the full-CG movie concept has only been around for ten years. Trust me on this, the great majority of animated movies are much more crappy than any CG movies out there, but the hand-drawn history is seven times longer (Snow White in 1937, Toy Story in 1995), so moviegoers have had plenty of time to stack up the good ones and forget about the lousy ones.

Am I the only one that even remembers that The Pebble & The Penguin, Rock-A-Doodle, The Pagemaster, The Brave Little Toaster, Fantastic Planet, The Black Cauldron, The Princess & The Goblin, The Adventures of Tom Thumb & Thumbellina, Doug: The Movie, The Belleville Triplets. . . Well, the list goes on, but am I the only one that remembers that these were actual movie titles?

Nope, I remember those. Didn't see all of them but they all registered in the memory banks.
There was also another film by the people who did "Fantastic Planet," Meryl Streep voiced the queen and there was a race who lived in the past and future but never the present. They didn't say, "He is alright," they said "He was-will-be alright." I forget the title, though...

Edit: Remember when "Aeon Flux" had no dialog or discernible plot?

well ofcourse i am aware that there is alot more drawn cartoons, so obviusly there will also be more bad ones.

but it just seems like peoples standards are lower for 3d movies. like a bad 3d movie is better than a mediocre 2d movie.

Heard that. Finally saw "Shark Tale" and was thoroughly unimpressed.

Okay, sharks as "Godfather" homages, but "Finding Nemo" handled that better. The whole thing was just limp. I've seen juicier Looney Tunes.

Hm. Honestly, to the best of my knowledge, unless you're counting the Barbie and/or Hotwheels commercials (which I was not), I don't think there have been any bad ones yet, or at least nothing horrificly bad like some of the 2D movies I listed. The closest thing to a CG crapfest anyone has produced as of yet was Jimmy Neutron, and that's only noteworthy as being the only movie with no desire for realism.

Also, Dreamworks and Pixar set their standards pretty high with some of their earlier releases, meanwhile we're accustomed to Disney producing crap cheapquels, so our standards for CG movies are much higher than for hand-drawn. All things considered, Shark Tale and The Incredibles were not that bad. They just didn't hold a candle to their previous releases.

I tend to favor pixar films since one of my sisters graduated with one of the programers. Also, isn't there one coming out about pigeons during ww2?

Came out, it's called "Valiant." The heavy is one Baron Von Talon, a falcon. It's currently residing in the local $1.50 all shows cinema in my neck of the woods.

Haven't seen it yet, mildly interested, but I'm more interested in Xathura and Narnian Chronicles.

*nods* As Vrik said, it's been out. It just hasn't gotten a whole lot of publicity, presumably because it was made in the U.K.

Who knows. Its a good idea to check up on it once in a while. Then you'll know if it gets released or not.

Eh, way too many movies. If it's interesting enough, I'll hear about it.

Just so you know, not all of those movies are CG.

I always wanted to strap a vacuum to a desk chair and ride around like that.

Come to think of it, my current vacuum cleaner is self-propeled.

Well, have fun riding your vac. And while you are at it, do some cleaning. :jester:
