What would be some good music to go along with a werewolf TF

Post by Kwipper »

What would be some good music to go along with a werewolf TF sequence?

I personally think that the song "Canned Heat" from "Jamiroquai" would go great with a werewolf TF sequence. The lyrics have nothing to do with werewolves or transforming, but something about the melody and beat of the music itself I can see going well with one.

What are your thoughts?

Music depends largely on other aspects of the scene. A scene that exists purely for the transformatin is wasted, and any other scene shouldn't focus atmosphere on that, but the context.

Bingo. It really depends more on the cicrumstances under which the shift is taking place that should define what music is implemented. And any one-size-fits-all shifting music like "She-Wolf" by Megadeth or "Wolf And Man" by Metallica. . . Well, you can probably tell for yourselves just how lame that would be. :P

unless the TF is quick, painless and the character is about to go into battle then they shouldnt do any music, the cracking of the bones and the strecthing of the face should be heard.

I'm too transfixed on uber-dark music for werewolves... Like ultra-gothic pipe organ tunes. :/

In my seventeen years of daydreaming a first shapeshift, I've thought in my mind of everything from the Jimmy Page-esque violin-bow-on-guitar portion of Whitesnake's "Still of the Night" to instrumental guitar riffs from Pink Floyd's "Sorrow." A few years ago, I even tried Whitesnake backwards. Ultimately, when I re-read my work for editing purposes, or just re-imagine the scene, I find it most unsettling with no music at all. Having no orchestration and certainly no pop rock score at that moment helps make it more believable, as if it were actually happening.

Werewolves of London - Warren Zevon

Bad Moon Rising - Creedence Clearwater Revival (I know it's been done)

Boulevard of Broken Dreams - Green Day

Last Night on Earth - Adam 12 and Spider

Falling Apart - Zebrahead

When Worlds Collide - Powerman 5000

just to name a few
A fractured psyche is not always a bad thing. In the world of Werewolves and Otherkin, many can exist in one host very peacefully. I am a great example of that. I have 6 different Fursonas

Let Me Out by MBD from the CURSED soundtrack. Although a flawed flick, that tune is perfect for a werewolf movie.

Something instrumental and dramatic that goes with the mood of the scene (back to the one-size-doesn't-fit-all thing). While Metallica's "Of Wolf and Man" came to mind first, it'd probably not be the best choice (I still hope that song somehow makes it into the Freeborn soundtrack in any case.)

Excelsia and Anubis: Disturbed and SOAD are Good bands, but they might be too "heavy" for a transformation scene, IMO.

God Spead you black emperior. Thay have a wall of sound that brings you too a nother level. Anything is possible when listening too it. Very epic. Some of their songs go for 20 minuts. A little cut and paste would be nessesary.

I'd rather hear instrumental tracks than songs, but it definitely depends on presentation. Weirdly enough, the American Werewolf in London classic rock shift worked.

If we're going to go that route, maybe something psychedelic, such as Jefferson Airplane? "White Rabbit"?

well, as i've actually made a werewolf mix cd, i have a few ideas.
to accentuate the mood of the change as frightening or somewhat taxing on the body, i'd suggest something that emulates a heartbeat. my experiances with techno music and dance music have shown me that those types do a lot with beats and bass, so if you want to get the heartbeat up and going, i'd go with a strong beat. but, you know, something fun and interesting to listen to as well, you gotta have a good soundtrack!
for transforming into a werewolf, i'd suggest a calm beat and feel to the beginning of the song and building up to a pounding speedy rhythm that stirrs the heart of the audience, then calms down to a powerful beat, but not as racing as before.
for the transformation back to human, i'd go with the exact opposite of the last one; a powerful beat rising to a crescendo, then calming down to a peaceful rhythm.
at least this is what i think would fit and what i did on my mix, whatever you choose to use in the movie is your guys' choice.

I think the kind of music should correlate with the situation of the shift. The 'Fateful Night' would call for a completely different music than a wanted shift performed by an experienced werewolf. It mostly depends on the mood of the scene. A werewolf shifting into Gestalt to fight would call for another music than a werewolf shifting into a wolf to enjoy a run through the woods and so on ...
In wildness is the preservation of the world
So seek the wolf in thyself!

I think that the music would fit well in the spot after shift when (if) the werewolf gets out running.

Oh mi gosh...

It's just hilarious when I think about a certain 'song' in that point...

um, i think the better idea is instead of looking specifically for an existing song, define charicteristics that you want emphasized in the transformation sequence, like my earlier post about the racing pulse, and try to either find songs that fit those characteristics or hire someone to make a song specifically FOR that moment.

nothing spoils the moment when you reveal your werewolfyness to your girlfriend than having "get down with the sickness" playing in the background while you change.
