Therians, furries, and werewolf fans, oh my!

 Feel free to throw a duck at me for the title of this thread.

"Curiosity killed the cat, lucky for me I'm not a cat!" In other words, I have a question. Again. Yes.

Since we seem to have a few therians here I was wondering just how many there were. If we already have a thread for this then I don't remember, but I do know there was never a poll. So nyah.

Anyway, what are ya? What out of the poll options do you consider yourself to be?

I'm otherkin and a furry. My fursona is a bat, but it changes from time to time. As for my otherkinness...currently I'm rather reluctant to name a phenotype at the moment because something will seem very right one day and very wrong the next, but polymorph seems to be the closest I can get to describing what I am. At least for now.

No I'm afraid I'm not a vampire. But I do like rare steak. :meat:

Though I am not any of those things, for some reason i find those sorts of people interesting. Mabye its the comfort of knowing there are plenty of people out there far stranger than I...

Curiosity killed the cat, but the knowledge brought her back! :D

I know for sure I'd fit in the furry catagory. I love that stuff; hopefully I'll make it to Anthrocon again this summer :)

And I'm not sure if I am a therian or not. Dont want to just claim I am and end up just being a poser or anything. *shrugs*

Ohhh...interesting question.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I used to say that I was a "Furry", since that seemed to be the closest fit, but I've since concluded (or realized) that Furries and the Furry Sub-Culture are NOT what I originally thought they were. The term "Furry" has become inseperable from the kinky oddities that have made them famously unpopular. ...much in the same way that one can no longer seperate the word "GAY" from flamboyant homosexuality. Technically speaking, "Gay" means 'Happy' or 'Joyful'...but it means something else now too. Even though technically "Furry" only means a fan of anthropomorphic animals, it doesn't Only mean that any more.

...so...I've decided to leave that term behind ... as an unfortunate casualty...

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I voted "None of the Above".

I am a person who is obsessed with the concept of a sentient mind within a body that is not human.
(Preferably, my own mind within a different body...but Inteligent Wolves and Birds and Dragons and Bunnies are awesome too.)

I am a "Shapeshifter" fan...

I am an "Anthropomorphic" Creature/Character fan...

I am a fan of most all things "Fantastic" "Mystical" "Supernatural" and "Metaphysical" ...of Scientific and/or Magical origins...

...but really...

I am irrationally obsessed with all things "Furred", "Feathered", "Scaled" or in some or any other way adorned with natural, biological, physical ornamentation and features that make said entity simultanioiusly more versitile and also aesthetically much more beautiful than any Homo-Sapien Human could ever be.

...and the thought of becoming such a creature...

...whatever you call That...that's what I am.

I'm a wolf therian.. I'm not going to try and explain it in dept, 'cause it's very hard to put into words at the moment... I knew that I was a therian for quite a while now... although at first I thought I was a bit looney... but then I found others like myself and a short time after that.. I found my girlfriend :D

*Claps dust of hands and walks away*

I understand you perfectly, Noa. I'm a wolf therian too, but I've known for a VERY short time. For a long time, I thought I was losing my sanity, and only recently have been convinced otherwise, thanks to meeting some other therians who helped me come to terms with it. I'm still lost in the woods, so to speak, but I'm not uncomfortable in them anymore...

I am a wolf therian. I just connect with wolves...I don't feel I was a wolf born human, or a misplaced soul. I just 'click' with wolves on a spiritual level.

I voted 'none of the above'. There is something different about me than about the rest of normal humanity...but for the life of my I don't know what it is yet.

I chose 'Therian'.

Yet I was tempted to choose 'None of the Above'. The thing is, I'm not here because I'm a therian, I'm here because I enjoy werewolves. I, personally, believe they have nothing to do with each other in my case.

I consider myself a therian at the most basic level.

what I mean is that I think I'm a therian, but I'm sure others would disagree even if I actually were!

I think the question is just a basic "Who are You?". Your answer need not be dirrectly relevant to your status or purpose here.

I am not a therian or otherkin, or really a furry either. ...but I get along well with those who are... (I feel that I am still a kindred spirit in some way)

I am just different by nature, and by choice. I don't have a name for what I am yet...but I'd like one...just so I could have someting to shout out with pride. ...but I change so often that defining me with a single word has prooven impossible.

If you are, or you think you are a Therian an Otherkin or a Furry, Say so...

...no explanation required...we understand.

ah, yes! I shall do that, make a "who are you" thread asking what you classify yourself as or if you even classify yourself at all

Though I mainly discuss my therianthropy, I chose "Combination" because I also have some otherkin elements. Though they come up less often on a day to day basis, I consider them closer to my core being. I just consider the wolf a step closer towards my core self, which is not clearly defined.

I don't think anyone truely knows anymore.

It used to be the group term for people who are exeptionally fond of Animal characters (usually cartoon style...but not allways). Furries ranged in exentricity from people who just liked "The Lion King" alot, to those who's lives revolve around the genre and wear animal costumes all day long. ("Lifestylers"/"Fursuiters")...and everything in-between.

Basicly...in the beginning, if you could say that movies with talking animals in them were one of your favorite kinds of movies, or you just liked to look at artwork with anthropomorphic animals in them more than pictures of humans, then you were a "Furry".

...but in the past decade or so, Furry Fandom has been completely overshadowed by one of it's sub-facets. "YIFF". (The Furry word for SEX...it's basicly Furry PORN.)

This is frighteningly popular (in the bowels of cyberspace...not in the public at large) and common...and has RUINED the reputation of the fandom for Hundreds of thousands of Clean "Furries" worldwide.

I am an "Old-School" Furry. I just think Anthropomorphic animal characters are AWESOME. ...that's all...

*Sigh* ...why oh why must the world be filled with so many dirty minds?

I really dont think of Furries as dirty, sex maniacs. A few, yeah, but I like to think the majority are pretty normal. Like I'm a geek who reads almost any 'anthropomorphic' books  ex: Watership Down, Tailchasers Song, The Sight.
Love movies with em too, like Kaze, Lion King, Balto, Robin Hood, ect.

That's a pretty good FAQ.

The furry movement has proliferated mainly through the Internet, and it developed around the same time as the therianthropy movement, which also owes its origin to the Internet. (Not counting the basic premise of therianthropy, which appears to predate human civilization.)

Since both involve identifying with animals, there's a lot of overlap, and we each end up running into each other a lot in places liike here. I suspect that Furry fandom will be one of the keys to ensuring at least Freeborn's cult status if it doesn't become a mainstream hit. To confuse things further, on a few documentaries on furries, I've seen interviews with people who really seemed more therian.
