You can do alot with the quake2 engine, it all really depends on the modellers and scripters.

well sence we are both kids and we don't know a whole lot i guess we should stick with the unreal game creator it comes with hours of tutorials on how to make staticmeshes, levels, weapons, characters ETC.

I know quite well of how to model. So if you sort out exactly what we want in the game. I'll make it.

Unreal Editor comes with the unreal tournament games, you should wait for UT 2007 to come out to have state of the art graphics. Personaly I would use the Half Life 2 engine sense you can add facial expressions and do more stuff for a story mode with it.

I am teh suxxarz with Unreal Ed, and the latest Unreal-games (2004) don't run (smooth) on my computer. I suggest a older engine. Maybe Quake 2 isn't such a bad idea. But how can you get that engine? I only have 'death match creator' for Quake 2...

Ohyeah, and DON'T say that the Quake 2 engine is outdated, just look at this:
Look at the reflection in the water:
Its all Quake 2-engine.

hmm.. a little work on improving the UI and it's AOK.
I suppose you could make it work in 3rd person too.

User interface.. Ummm the HUD (headup display)
if it were fancier... ie having a more detailed weapon

Yeah, the weapon-model is still the same on that screenshot.

If I recall, the Quake 2 source code has been available for quite some time now.

Hehe. At least then the models are no problem. Maybe reskinning is a good idea?

so what do youi think i should do? get Unreal or quake2 source engine!? for this game?

http://www.planetquake.com/polycount/sk ... wolf.shtml this looks good.
EDIT:
~Anubis~ well sense you all are beginners I say go with quake 2 sense it already has werewolf models. Ofcourse it would be nice to use the half life 2 engine sense the graphics can be updated over time unlike most engines.

i'm not sure i'm still thinking of getting the unreal because of the tutorials, since i know next to zip on making computer games
(ps can some body fix that pic so it won't stretch out the forum like that!!)

technically, you could really push the limits of this engine with Highpoly modelling and large textures, since it was designed to be used by much slower comps.

You people might like to know that the Quake 3 engine is in fact now freely available, along with tools, tutorials, and so on. Take a look at
id Software's tech download page for the files.
I've had a look at the code; it's well written and organized. Builds fine in MSVC6.1 without any tweaking.

I suck with programing period... If someone else can worry about the inticate bits, I'm happy to provide my full effort to make models and maps.

I tried Quake 3 (Radiant) yesterday, but its too complicated for me. It could be a lot easyier like WorldCraft/Hammer for the Half-Life-engine but instead Radiant takes a lot of effort in designing.
Personally I think Quake 2-engine is the most flexible of all. With the 'Death-Match Creator' (don't know if its available for download) everyone can create levels for Quake 2 so thats one problem less to worry about.
