People do stupid things

I can't for the life of me find it on any news sites, but I swear I'm not making this up.

I saw this on the news last night. In some country I don't remember the name of there was a man who went into the lion enclosure at the zoo. Before he did he said "God will protect me." Hah...the lions killed him as soon as he was in with them.

This isn't the first time I've heard of something like this either. A long time ago there was a similar report of a man trying to convert the lions to christianity. What is it with these people and lions?

i know this is wrong but, i almost pissed myself laughing at this. people need to stop believing that whatever god they worship is going to protect them in life. we're on our own here. not just as individuals (SP?) but as a species.

Why did the lions attack the man?

The devil made them do it. :evilwolf:

It didn't say, but think about it for a minute. Say you're one of the lions. Some strange man climbs into your exibit. You don't recognize him. Therefore, he's not there to feed you, and could potentially be a threat to your lionesses/cubs/territory. Instead of letting him take over/hurt your mates/kill your offspring you tear his throat out. There is no penalty for killing in the animal world. It's a part of everyday life. Instinct dictates that you protect what is yours, and that's exactly what they did.

I don't know what's dumber though: climbing into the lion exibit thinking God will protect you, or drinking snake venom thinking God will protect you. Someone hand these people a Darwin award...

Well, considering acids like those found in the stomache have a tendency to denature protines like those that make up snake venom, I'd personally chose the second over the first. (AFAIK I don't have an ulcer.)

Oh dear.. :( That's too bad..I don't know what more to say about that..I do know I've had my doubts about that, fer a long time actually..I just don't know, to deep of a subject just to spend a few sentences on..No this would need a long story and some history to do..I just know this isn't the time nor place to go into an indepth conversation as it might offen some..

they are people who take their religion all to far, honestly, converting lions? you cannot convert something that does not even understand you let alone wants to eat you.

In my views these people were insane.

As I said on another forum, God won't protect you when you go looking for trouble.

That guy probably went up to Heaven and demanded to know why God didn't save him, to which God responded: "Hey, when you were climbing into the lion exhibit, do you remember a tiny voice in the back of your head telling you this didn't seem like such a good idea? You do? THAT WAS ME!!!"

Actually I think it was God protecting the rest of us from this guy's obviously deficient genetic material.

Yes, folks, I do believe we have a Darwin Award recipient here!

The other thing I think is going on, is that the fundie Abrahamites are trying to force the Bible into literalism since pretty much everyone else is yelling at them, "IT'S AN AL-LE-GOR-Y!" There's a passage in the Old Testament that holds the lion will eat straw alongside the ox. Maybe he was trying to make himself a saint by preaching to the animals (reference St. Francis and a couple others who purportedly did that).

Or heck, maybe it's just Antichrist Day...

this reminds me of some thing i read in the Darwin awards. A man from Mississippi or where ever. went to go and preach this cannable tribe in south america with his family. The man was told NOT to go like a million times, but he said god would pretect him.

Obviously he and his family was killed then eaten before the fool was able to take out his bible out of his duffle bag.

You know, that heppened before. A guy climbed in to a lion's pen and as the lion came at him he prayed "Lord please make this lion a Christian!"
Just like that the lion dropped to his knees and said "Please bless this food which I am about to recieve...."

haha, I've heard this joke before, but kudos for perfect timing!

Also, people need to realize that God's just not ok with you testing him like that. That's why it's called 'faith'.

Funny thing is I really can recall a news article about a man that not only claimed God would protect him from the lions, but apparently was attempting to "convert" him.

I think he lived though.
