Bark or No Bark?

Post by Neilak20 »

Wolves don't/can't bark, Correct?
So would Werewolves have the ability to bark?
Wolf/dog hybrids can bark, and humans can kinda bark (I can do a mean chihuahua )
Would this mean that Werewolves can or do bark?

Wolves can bark, they just don't do it with the frequency or volume that dogs do.

Could they?...YES.

Would they?...Probobly Not.

...but I don't see any reason why they would lack the capacity to make that sound, should one choose to.

I think they most certainly can, but whether or not they would depends on the situation and the particular werewolf.

But in all honesty, I'm with Anubis on this one:
Anubis wrote:werewolves i don't see barking.... they don't have a reason to if they can talk in wolf form.
I am VERY VERY much in favor of werewolves who can talk in wolf and gestalt forms, though maybe with a lot of practice.

I am not of the camp that werewolves would be incacable of talking while shifted, for a wide variety of reasons. However, this is all beyond the intent and scope of this thread, so I'll leave it off.

So...to address the question at hand: Can werewolves bark? Of course! WOULD werewolves bark? Maybe...

They might bark if they're joking around perhaps?
I also like the idea of them being able to speak ^_^

I don't.

Morkulv and a few others complain about how they think werewolves looking too wolfish making them too much like furries, and not enough like the supernatural monsters of lore.

...personally...I think talking wolves crosses that line for me.

If the werewolf looks like a wolf, they should not be able to speak, IMHO.

...if they look like the 'Wolfman' or 'TeenWolf' werewolves, then it would make sense to me for them to speak.

But word's spoken through a canine muzzle does not feel like a "Werewolf" to me. :P

I figure that they should be able to speak in the gestalt form, but not in the wolf form. There you start getting into the weird 'talking animal' thing.

I figure barking in wolf form is okay, especially if they're trying to imitate a dog.

If your refering to speaking human language then I dont see how is that totaly possible sense a gestalt is supposely has a wolf head.

Ok...Let's say Werewolves can bark...What IS a bark, really? Dogs use about six different types of "Bark" as communication.
SO...Why not have Werewolves use the Bark as a sort of Warning or a "Come Here" call, when it wouldn't be safe or appropriate to Howl?
You hear a Wolf howl in the middle of town...there's something odd here, wolves don't usually enter human areas, you...the Smoothskin Human, go investigating...oops!
On the other paw, You hear a Dog barking...odd, seems almost like a pattern...make a note to complain about it to the City...

Ya' see where I'm goin' here don'cha? :) Werewolves would "Bark" when they didn't want to arouse attention!

Werewolf: (sneaking past unaware human, stubs toe) "Ow, dammit!"

Human: "Huh? What was that?!"

Werewolf: "Uhh..." (bark, bark)

Wolves don't bark, and werewolves shouldn't either.

Don't mess dogs up with wolves.

Actually, Morkulv, wolves do bark, they just don't do it as frequently as dogs, nor for the same range of expression that dogs do.

Then its just a weird noise that sounds like a bark, but it isn't.

Think I'm feeling the way the majority of the crowd is, that is to say that werewolves could bark but probably wouldn't unless they thought it might help them. Fool a person into thinkin they're seeing a really big dog instead of a wolf, or some such

A thought

Post by RedEye »

In a situation where a Were wanted to scare someone away, but not give up the Secret, I think barking would work. The person receiving these ministrations would think DOG, not WOLF, and surely not Werewolf.
