Extreme Makeover: Home Addition

How to start this?
Well plain and simple, someone on my street is having their house done. The people who live there are both cops with two kids. I haven't met them yet becuase they JUST moved in. Well, what makes them so special?
It turns out that the wife was wounded on duty. She was shot in an alley way by a gang member and ended up hospitalized. She was hit in a vital area and is now paralized from the waist down. Home Addition sent them to Cabo for the week. Tomarrow they will parade all 500 workers and start working on the house. Then on Friday of next week, that family will return and everyone will say "Move that Bus!"
Both ends of my street are blocked off with barricades and there are round the clock guards on duty. The dead end street behind the houses (a big alley way street with no houses facing towards the street) has also been blocked off. Anyone can go see it if they walk. Driving on the street is out of the question due to filming. Only resedents that live on the street are aloud to pass with their cars.
Just thought that would be an interesting piece of information.

That's cool. I like that show. Good to see some families get the help they need. Too bad they can't do it for every family in need, but hey with every show at least it's one more family on their feet.
Sounds like it's going to be a bit of a pain for you and your neighbors though.

Not really for me, hehehehe. I live at one end of the street and they are doing it on the other end. My street is like a little less than half a mile long, so it's all good.
EDIT: Oh I forgot to add. My sister lives on my street too. TWO houses down from the house that is being done. And guess what she does for a living? She's a photographer. I know she's been taking pictures of the process, so if anyone wants to see them, let me know and I'll see what I can do for you.

Ok, well she said she would send me some of the pictures tommorow. They might include the parade of the 500 workers, I'm not sure. We're just going to have to wait and find out.

I really love that show! I think it deserves an award. While most prime time major network "reality shows" contrive to pit people against each other and generate hard feelings, this show gives people back their lives and restores the human potential. It's great for building the spirit and motivating one's self to do something nice for someone.
Though I have at one point pictured what would happen if Ty Pennington were stuck in Houston traffic--getting out of his car with the bullhorn, running up and down the clogged streets, shouting, "OK, people, move it! Move it! Let's go! Hey bus driver... Move that bus!"

Wow thats cool! I wish they did that near me. That would be great to watch.
Is anybody you know helping to build it? Im pretty sure they take volunteers from the area.

They are taking volunteers. I wish I could help but there is a rule. You have to be at least 18 to help. I'm 17
But here's an update for today.
They poured the cement and by night fall they got the roof on the house. Yes, in less than a day they have it up. I heard that they should be painting by tomarrow night at 8 p.m. That means that tonight they will put up dry wall, put in installation and wire the house. Crazy stuff I tell you.
As a side note....I got to take a picture with Paige! I was freakin out. And you know what? She wears a lot of pink....a little too much pink.
Anyway, I should have pictures tomarrow. My sister is being herself and not giving them to me.
*sigh*
I'll get them, eventually.

Thats funny that they get it done so quickly. It kind of makes you wanna yell at lazy construction guys who takes months to finish something!

I never like this show for two reasons;
1. NBC doesn't really spend money the money spent is tax deductible
2. When they did a house by me, they made this family look like their house was crap before they got there, but it was a really really nice house that within a year of their moving in was ruined. So who ever judges the people is blind

Took a company a year and a half to finish my sister's house.
Oh and sorry about the pictures. My sister has been busy and I'm still waiting for her to send them to me.
As for the construction, the last time I checked they were 10 hours behind. They might have caught up, I'm not sure. I was planing on going now to find out...and to ask my sister if she would be so kind as to send me some pictures already.

Ok, so they finished the house yesterday. Here's the funny part about this though. The moved the bus like 3 times, had us chant "Move that bus" once, and drove an empty limo up to the house *counts on paw digets* three times. They were supposed to start filming at like 5 but they were delayed because they forgot to measure a door. It was quit entertaining because they ran the door past us 4 or 5 times. Anyway, I got to stand with the other volunteers....hehe even though I wasn't supposed too.
Now for the scoop inside the house.
1. All the counters and cabinates in the kitchen are lower so that she can reach them (She's in a wheelchair).
2. She has a special therapy room. I have no idea what it's for.
3. They built a special play set for her daughter, who by the looks of it is either 1 or 2.
4. They have a wirlpool jicuzzie(SP?) in the back yard.
5. (the coolest thing, I think) They have a special track inside the house that attaches to the back of her wheelchair. The track can take her anywhere in the house.
6. There are cameras in every room. They have this so that the mom can find her duaghter if she needs help or somethng happens.
7. There is very expensive security system in the house that will tell you what doors in the house are open (it talks)
8. They also filled the house with new clothes for everyone, food, toys for their daughter and I'm sure some other stuff too.
Oh......and as for the pictures. My sister is working on that. Hopefully she will have them soon.
Sorry everyone about the delay. I really want to see the pictures too and when I get them, I'll post them ASAP.
Thanks for being pacient everyone!
