In many things we see glowing eyes in werewolves.

so the question is glowing eyes? your opinion.

I see 3 sides to this myself.

Not glowing,

Reflective like a wolf's and this being mistaken for glowing.
or
the protein Reflectin being present like in a Bobtail Squid and causing a dim glow in the eyes as a source of light so they have better night vision.
(yes I have a bad habit of adding chimera features to werewolves. After all if its magical, what the hell) its a chimera anyways. half human, half wolf. and most folklore shapeshifters have features not found in their primary animal representation.

This poll is the real one. The other two are mistakes that somehow sprouted when I tried to edit the poll.

As long as no one has posted any respones after the first one, there should be a little "X" in the top right corner next to "Edit" which will allow you to delete it entirely...I think.

Since Wolves have the same reflective layer to their eyes that cats do, and for the same reason (better night vision), I'd say Nomal, biologically caused Reflection...
and they really are spooky at night....

I rather go for reflective. Those are cool.

Wow. I knew this would be one-sided, but I didn't think it'd be a landslide.

I voted for reflective too. It looks more natural, not to mention is much cooler than the typical glowing.

reflective, it's sppokier. glowing eyes give a predator away in darkness anyway.

Definitly reflecting. I dunno why, but I just like reflective eyes like wolves, deer, and cats have. Even though my cat tried to kill me about 50 times per week. *Growls*

that's not glowing, that's reflective.

I never expected such a landslide one sided vote turn out, especially given how many monsters out there are given magical or special glowing proteins or what not to make their eyes glow.

Guess what people really want is the natural look rather than the demon from hell look.

I voted for "reflective only" but I must say that I really thought the red glowing eyes were cool in Teen Wolf. However, they are incredibly cheesy almost everywhere else I've seen them.

This is probably why we would have movies and stories in which werewolves have actual glowing eyes. The natural reflection is being mistaken for a glow. Similar to how children might assume that the moon produces its own light.

i prefer the nautral "reflective" look. while yes, in many movies, they portray lycanthropes with 'magically' glowing eyes it seems (to me) to be a bit trite.

the thought of walking into a circle of moon-reflected eyes in the middle of a forest seems much more mystical and frightning to me because it is so much more *realistic*.

I voted for reflective aswell , but I also equally like glowings, I wish you had both for options. Most of my werewolf drawings have glowing eyes.

mainly reflective but also a bit of a glowing to them...predominately biological...

I hadn't thought anyone would want both options.

as for a use for glowing eyes, internal light source, as well as petrifying prey with fright. As well as a visiual emotional cue, like with squids and chamelions that change color to show moods. Mood ring eyes.
But that would make it something other than wolf.

This is a wolf not a squid. This random s*** has to be created from nothing. Which you can't make matter from nothing without a whole lot of energy.

Reflective. Because doesnt the reflective ability make it easier to see in the dark? Werewolves definatly have to see in the dark.

Ya, cats' eyes do the same thing, because they too have to see in the dark.

Its not because they have the ability to see in the dark. Its because of the configuration of rods and cones in their eyes that allow them to see in the dark that causes the reflection.

Actually the reflection has nothing to do with rods and cones, it's caused by a layer called the tapetum lucidum, who's only purpose is to reflect light back at the retina to improve night vision (though at stronger levels, the retina itself will reflect light.)
