A new pet?

First: Thanks for the kind replies about Keno. I miss him as much as i did when he had to "go". Its empty without him, My girlfriend miss him much too. We look back and cherish the time we had with him.

The other day a friend that lives pretty near where i live, talked about selling a animal he has. He asked if i was interrested buying his animal. He knows about Keno and how sad i was and still is.

The animal he wanna sell to me is a...... Skunk!!!!. Yes, you read that right. A skunk!!. I of course started talking about "smelling", but my friend said that it couldnt spray because the musk sacs (is that what they are called ?. i dont really know) are removed. The skunk is also neutered so he cant reproduce.

My friend told he had buyed the skunk when he lived in USA. Strangely enough he could legally take it to Sweden. This was after it sat at customer for check for rabies and all that.

He is saying the skunk is really a great animal. Cuddly and so soft. I dont know so much about them so i,m a little hesistant to buy him. When i visited him yesterday the skunk was running about in the kitchen. It was running forward and back, almost stomping. They seems to like that

I wonder, have you heard anything about having skunks as pets? For me, this was a new thing anyway.

Pet skunks have their scent glands removed. That's not a problem.

Z wrote:lol, did nobody read the part where he mentioned that pet skunks get their scent glands removed? its the same for all domesticated mustelids (including ferrets). when i wuz living in ohio, i wuz gunna buy a domestic skunk too but after i found out they are illegal i bought a ferret instead, next best thing :P. unfortunately i ended up having to move to CA, where ferrets are illegal :( so now i have a pit bull, becuz THOSE where illegal back in ohio lol

anyway, sry about the loss of ur dog, but yea i think the best remedy would be a pet of a different species.
Yay for ferrets! :D (yeah for those who dont know, ferrets are NOT in the rodent family...they are in the same family as skunks and otters)

What does one feed a skunk? :?

I've heard of people that of having domesticated skunks for pets. With their glands removed they actualy make good pets. They're playful, loving and very mischievous, they can get into some trouble.

If you can stand a hyperactive, defunked, loving skunk i say go for it! :)

Well, they seem to like yogurt. :P

One time I saw a little skunk in the middle of the road with its head stuck in a yogurt cup. I was really agraid he would get hit, so some random couple in a van blocked off the road for me so I would be safe and I went and tried to pull it off. It was stuck on really tight, so it took a couple good yanks. But I finally got it off his head. He was most un-grateful.

Cute little guy though. :)

Aww Pariah :D

---

A skunk would be an awesome pet! I guess you gotta consider:

- Food
- How you would excersize the skunk (Walking or a bunch of toys? You can get ferret harnesses)
- Making the house escape proof
- Toilet training

All that sort of stuff. And vet checks and all that too. Study the animal first. Look it up on google or something. Unfortunately I can't help in detail! I think it's a good idea to have someone to cuddle after your beloved dog.
