THAT"S JIM F&%^$#&@(#*&ing HENSON YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT SIR! Nothing he ever did was "crappy" Unless I miss my guess, you only mean crappy because the movie wasn't full of modern, overused, computer effects. Back then, a matte painting was really a painting, not a bunch of pixels.

But i still hate The Labyrinth It was poorly done, the girl was one of the worst actors i've seen, and the character she play was just poorly thought out, all she did was whine! (some body needs to slap her!) The story was stupid as well.

It has sooooo much groan factor i turned it off before my VCR said i was a half an hour into it, but I might have like it if i was a child.

The Labyrinth scared the hell out of me when I was little. I was always afraid of puppet type things. And those creatures that wanted to take her head off because they could take theirs off...*shudders*....i had nightmares about them. Just like the monster with the impossibly long legs from Little Monsters. Very scary.

Labyrinth is a funny word.

David Bowie stared in the thing, for bloody sakes. Brian Froud (of Faeries, The Dark Crystal, and tons of New Age magazine articles) did the creature effects. It's bloody heresy to call it crappy.

Still, I can see why some wouldn't like it. Its avant garde nature makes it weird and enigmatic enough, and its musical quality can be a bit off-putting to those who hate musicals--though I again remind you that it's David Bowie doing the singing.

I think there's an English Patient phenomenon going on here. Some people love that movie, while others can't get into it. (I haven't seen it myself. I'm just using it as a point of reference.) You can find a similar phenomenon with Martin Page's song "House of Stone and Light." All the women I know love and adore that song. But, like most guys, I don't get it; to me it's just a song. Sure, the lyrics are a bit interesting, but not enough to turn a jumpy pop song into a transcendental metaphysical experience.

So, I'll grant you your opinion, even if it sucks.

Heh. That was actually my first thought: that it looked like a Labyrinth remake by Tim Burton. At the very least, it looks very interesting. I doubt I'll be seeing this in theaters (still saving up to see Happy Feet and the Departed), but I'm eager to hear what the critics (IE: you) have to say.

Ah Pan's Labyrinth has been generating lots of talk for months and months.

Heck, even their booth at Comicon San Diego last July was crawling with excited fans.

Especially when the director came to sign the promo posters himself.

Anyhow, being a foreign (to the USA) film, plenty of critics have had the opportunity to see screenings/screeners and they are falling all over themselves in approval for it.

The good fortune for us, especially after the debacle of Eragon, is that the film appears to be opening Dec 29th

Pan's Labyrinth

It looks very strange, and it definitely caught my eye when I went to see Casino Royale and they played the trailer. It looks very surreal.

WOW. *whistles* I'm definitely going to see that when it comes out. And the music sounds gorgeous...

Well! That's awesome. I'm definitely going to see that. It's like the Chronicles of Narnia, but scarier....

Very very good movie! I saw it on sunday at the theater down the street from my house. Its suposed to be in theaters everywhere on the 26th. You should definatly go see it. Its well done! I cried so many times during that damn movie I lost count! But I also flinched a lot because it does have a war in it and this movie was VERY graphic. But it was a wonderful story and Im going to own it when it comes on dvd. All the acting was wonderful and the little girl, Ofelia, was outstanding. I didnt even realize I was sitting in a movie theater. There is very pretty scenery and it is well shot. The saytr/faun is cool looking as well as the monster.

One fault with it: It has subtitles. I didnt know that going in. But it was still wonderful. You forot you were reading it after awhile. Its in spanish so i picked up a few words anyway.

Go see it!

I saw this movie! It's like Alice in Wonderland, but dark in twisted...I'll be damned if I wasn't impressed by the movie. It has fairy tale fantasy with a dark, nightmarish nature to it.

Totally worth seeing!

Saw it today. Surprisingly enough, it's playing in Bend, it's playing in Salem, it's playing in Tigard, but it's <i>not</i> playing in Eugene!! What's up with that, anyway?

So. Very dark, very sad, and very, <i>very</i>, VERY good. Definitely worth the hour's drive to see it. Loved the ogre, loved the faun even better. Comparing Fauno to Tumnus...I'd have to tip for Fauno, if only by a slim margin. But Fauno had better horns and neat spirals on his forehead and had a great, wise, creaky-old-tree voice. Tumnus was a sweet forest creature, but Fauno was a minor force of nature with equal amounts of love and anger.

It's not as artsy or surreal as I thought it would be. <i>The Fountain</i> and <i>Night Watch</i> had more along those lines. The sets were wonderful, especially the ogre's lair. Definitely in the same vein as <i>Hellraiser</i> and <i>Company of Wolves</i> and <i>Legend</i>.

I won't say anything else because I don't want to spoil it. Surprisingly enough, there's not a lot of intricate plotting but the visuals and the acting make up for that. And hey, you're gonna love Fauno. If it's playing near you, go see it. If it's not playing near you, keep your ear to the ground and pick up the DVD.

Edit: If you're a Clive Barker fan, I especially encourage you to see it. He had nothing to do with it but there's a definite Barkerian influence.

Oh man the ogre/monster part scared the heck out of me! And the faun was beautiful...very earthy looking. I liked this movie a lot. The girl who plays Ofelia was just awesome.

I saw it and I love it! It really caught my eye, especially the special effects. I loved how they made Pan look. They didn't make him look so much like a human, like what most interpretations are, but a totally different creature. He actually stood on his hind legs, which was awesome And the little girl was a great actress and her interaction with Pan and the fairies was wonderful. The storyline was great as well; it's like a modern day fairy tale, villians and all. And no, I don't mind subtitles; I enjoy watching movies from other countries (Life is Beautiful, Amelie, etc...). I highly recommend this movie and I hope it wins for Best Foreign Movie in the Oscars

Actually, the bloody Capitan scared me more than the ogre did. With the ogre, you can do anything except <i>that one thing.</i> (No spoilers ) With the Capitan, practically anything you do is cause to set him off.
