You wont believe how many COOL animated projects like this NEVER ge tmade, either because executives think they wont be profitable, or whatever. Most likely, this is ALL you will ever see of this film...from a long time ago

It actually doesn't surprise me that a film like this didn't get made. Even despite the success of programs like The Simpsons, Family Guy, South Park, and the many shows on Adult Swim, the entertainment industry is still plagued by this perception that animation is purely for children. Slicing a zombie down the middle with a severed arm would be way ahead of its time. I'm sure there are countless animated flicks that didn't get the OK for just that very reason.
Maybe this is just wishful thinking on my part, but I have a feeling that once somebody does challenge the cartoons = for kids rule, you're going to see a ton of movies like this. Nobody wants to make movies like this because they don't think there is any money to be made, so all it takes is for someone to prove that there is money to be made. Eventually someone will realize "Hey, didn't those guys that did Ferngully have a really good zombie movie?" That's when it will get made.

I completely agree with you there. Look at the adult orientated cartoon tv series. Now I don't know who you'd say came first as I don't know that Simpsons is necessarily 'ADULT' but you got southpark, which over here in the UK was MASSIVE. Then you got King of the Hill, Family Guy, American Dad, Happy Tree Friends......Once the execs realise there is BIG money in this genre, We will be Flooded.

That movie looks pretty cool, but I guess it's a cutthroat world out there. Ferngully is really cool too, it's a good thing that didn't get canned like their zombie project. I hope Terastas is right about them picking it back up one day, it looks pretty Evil Dead entertaining to me ^_^
By the by do you guys think an Evil Dead animated show would make or break the franchise?

I think an Evil Dead toon series would kill it flat. I think the 3rd movie and the Video games have already dug it's grave. It's a cult thing and should be left alone. imho

Heh unless its already out someone made an Ash vs. Marvel Zombies comic that was supposed to come out soon. Comics books. Hmm. Anywayz, I don't know maybe if it was done in the style of this zombie toon it would be alright. Oh well. Can't wait to see what the gang do with Evil Dead 4 and the remake of Evil Dead.

I figure it will be similar to what happened with CG. At first, it was only Pixar, but in 1998, Pixar proved the first CG film wasn't just a fluke with
A Bug's Life and Dreamworks had some success of their own with
Antz. Since then, the market for CG has exploded.
I figure the same thing will happen with adult animation. First somebody has to be ballsy enough to actually try it, but if/when someone does OK an adult cartoon and they have success at the box office, the original production company will OK another project and another company will decide it might be worth a gamble themselves. If those two films are just as successful as the first, that's when all the other production companies will jump on the bandwagon. Once the market explodes, the companies may become pressured to continue cranking out movies just like is in the current CG market, and that's when they're most likely to start digging around for scripts they remember being presented with in the past. If it all works out that way, that's when
Arrow will get a second chance at the drawing board.
Honestly, being a zombie flick, it wouldn't surprise me if it's one of the first ones they think of. Consider the success of
Xombie, for example.
Right now the presumption is that all cartoons are either strictly for children, or Japanese. Still, it's only a matter of time before somebody begs to differ.

That looks pretty awesome. Kicked them zombie's asses, he did.
I'd love to see a zombie film in animation. That would be wicked - and unique.

We Americans have tried...but we're always told there's no demographic for more adult animation. Also, we live in a country founded by puritans, so anyhting remotely sexy would be considered pornography. Even a mere rated-R type of animation.

It is inevitable that if a cartoon even edges a smidgen over the PG line, somebody will accuse the production studio of trying to corrupt their children. Half the time, however, all it seems to do is make the writers/animators all the more tempted to push the bar further and tease the censors.
The best, or at least most blatant example, of course, is the
Family Guy song about the FCC:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SeEiRXdOV9Q
Obviously, none of the big names of animation have ever gone that far, but Dreamworks has branched off into "almost said a swear" material. It's only a matter of time, I believe, before Dreamworks approves a
Father of the Pride movie.
South Park has been made into a movie,
Beavis & Butthead has been made into a movie, and
The Simpsons is going to be made into a movie -- it's only a matter of time before the animation leaders try their hands at
original mature cartoon movies.
I think around the same time, some studios will try action and/or drama cartoons, but we may even see some before then. Our very own Tim Albee has already gotten the industry's attention with his $5000 self-made movie. If
Freeborn is successful (and it will be), Albee and his studio will be catapulted into the limelight, and
Kaze: Ghost Warrior will become to Tim Albee what
THX 1138 was to George Lucas (IE: it'll become a cult classic). If Albee continues making animated films after
Freeborn, it'll be only a matter of time before either one of the current media giants will approach them about a potential partnership on the big screen, or Albee and co. will make the move themselves.
And that's only what I foresee happening with Tim Albee. Somebody may beat them to it.

Father of the pride is dead. Dead as a doorknob and will NEVER get a movie.

Father of the Pride did only last one season, but in all fairness, it was because of NBC gave up on it before it had a chance to take off and gain a fan base. The animators and voice actors all loved working on the program, and with the exception of the "their corrupting our children!" claims I mentioned earlier, the series was well received by everyone that cared to watch it.
It's a lot like what happened to Kevin Smith's
Clerks animated series, which ABC gave up on before it had even debuted and gave it the ax after only two episodes. When the series was released on DVD, however, it was a big hit. Last August, Kevin Smith confirmed that an animated
Clerks movie would be made this year.
Father of the Pride and
Clerks were both big hits that failed because the networks they were entrusted to did a s*** job managing them, running episodes out of order, including them in a bad lineup, and ultimately giving up on them before they could take off, yet the potential success of both shows was demonstrated in the success of their DVDs. It will not surprise me if, once adult animation is proven to be a potential success, Dreamworks decides to test the market for themselves with a concept they already have all the character models for.

I loved father of the Pride
Fox did the same thing with Family Guy (and look how funny it is)

i honestly think father of the pride was cancelled...bacause it sucked. There's no other way to say it. Who wants to watch a Sigfried and Roy themed-talking animal show that's on in primetime? No one. that's why it was cancelled. Not only that, i heard the show had sick sexual humor coming from a bunch of cute cartoon lions. I'm sorry, but no one, no matter how sick their minds are, wants to hear that, and especially when the LOOK of the characters probably made some parents think they could plunk their children down in front of the tv and watch. I bet there was some pissed off parents after that :}

I watched it, along with roughly six million other people according to NBC's ratings. There's a market for more than just
Arrow you know.

My point is...six million people is a drop in the bucket, ratings wise. Also, it just seemed too "furry"

This is depressing. Not only have you stated that you never actually saw the show and are just going by what you've heard elsewhere, you also stated the exact same argument that comes from people with the "cartoons = for kids" mentality we've been griping about since you started this thread. What are you trying to say by that? That a mature cartoon is only worth making if it has exploding zombies in it?
And don't get me started on furry content. Some people would say the same thing about Freeborn. "Werewolves that are not mindless slobbering killing machines? That's too furry!"
Six million is less than NBC wanted, but considering everything NBC did to absolutely screw up that show, the fact that they still had six million viewers is impressive. Six million viewers roughly translates to $45,000,000 at the box office, and that's only if Dreamworks does as s*** a job marketing the movie as NBC did the animated series and assuming none of the six million viewers sees it twice. If they handled the advertising themselves to ensure that it was being marketed to the proper demographics, I think they could triple that amount overall.
