I dunno if there is another like thread, but I was just wondering of how many known types of "weres" are out and about. The most known type is the werewolf. I know of werebears, werecats, werefoxes, and even weresnakes. But I don't know of any others. :) I just want to see what others may exist. I just think it would be so cool if there were outragous stuff like werepenguins. That would be so cool.

I've mostly seen "creative" weres on TV: such as werechickens, werepoodles (or weredogs), werebeavers, and werepanthers.

Ha  That is true. I hope that isn't all. I know of a werelion. He is cool. I wouldn't want to get in a fight with him though, me being a female wolf :femshft

I don't like the weres in movies. They get it all wrong

Werehorses could be cool. Visualize a cavalry coming over the hill, come to striking range, the horses rear up...and up...and up... and shoulders widen, muscles bulge, the stallions and geldings' canines slip out from under their gums, eyes rolling white, nostrils flaring red...

When I saw "Alexander" and they had that scene with Bucephalus facing up against the war-elephant, I played this scenario in my head where they were both weres and when they reared up against each other, they kept going. 'Course the sword-wielding elephant would have still handed Bucephalus his a** but that would have been a fight for the scrapbooks.

I actually came up with were"chickens" in my Pashunara world, they were the Murgha. Indian jungle fowl. I silenced the people who snickered "It's a giant chicken!" by having its gestalt form be a Jabberwock and it's Great Beast form being a velociraptor. They were closer to the French fighting cocks than Foghorn Leghorn and could seriously mess people up with their spurs.

Werepanthers are just Coolness Incarnate. Werelions are great, I wrote up a Werewolf:the Apocalypse scenario where the Ghost and the Darkness were Mayi'o and Amadu'o Simba, the latter being Black Tooth. The Ghost was a female and she was questing after Black Tooth because she knew the secret to killing him from their past lives.

Speaking of World of Darkness, my favourite tribe was the Ceilicann. The so-called Witch Cats. They weren't just big, uber-smart kitties, they were bonafide shapeshifters who could drive you crazy with their singing and were in hiding because pretty much everyone in the WoD was trying to capture and destroy or enslave them. They, the Corax and the Nuwisha were the therianthrope triumvirate of Tricksterie.

I'd like a bit of wereeverything, thanks. It's always good to have a wereelephant sitting next to you in a train, and a werebutterfly sitting on the other side.

Heh, no, he chose the name before he knew what his theriotype was- All he knew was he saw himself as a long, lean, un-marked brown feline with rounded ears similar to a bear's. He found a picture of a red phase jaguarundi and ever since, he has been my 'rundi-brother. :D

I think I had heard of a movie or game bout a ratman. I'd hate to be that :P. Sorry if there are any rat or mice therians here
And, PariahPoet, how different is life as a cat than that of a wolf? That is if you know :D

I'm going to assume you mean "physically shapeshifting creature of legend". And on that note, there's pretty much a were-everything out there somewhere. In South America you have stories about werejaguars, in Africa there's werehyenas, the Norse had stories about people who could turn into swans and salmon, Greeks had the Selkies (wereseals), one place had a tale or two about people turning into spiders...the list is quite long, really.

Were' Humans?

There's a direction being ignored: a nice, normal Wolf being turned into a Human when the Full Moon shines.
Were'-Humans: Wolves that are turned by the full moon into Insurance salesmen and Tax accountants.
 :P

That kinda reminds me of a book by Alice Borchardt called "Night of the Wolf". I like that book. The wolf has the ability to change into a man rvt :D

I just remembered another type...Wereboy

It was from an episode of Muppet Babies were Rolf was playing piano in a high school gym and he realizes there was a full moon outisde so he goes out into the parking lot and he turns into a WEREBOY rvt . Then these dogs chase after him but Rolf is saved by Gonzo and Scooter in their flying submarine.

I miss that show :(
