FoxOfWar sayin' hello - and coming back!

Heh, it was inevitable. Whether or not army is busy destroying my social life, I am back. I still have three months left of service, but now I have a laptop and wlan here :)

I think you will be seeing more of me in the months to come.

Err... I left a transformation-booby trap disguised as a present over here somewhere. Did anyone see it?

Good to see that you're back. This may sound stupid - but make sure that when you ETS that you're eligible for reenlistment - as well as know fully what the qualifications are. That way, you always have a backup plan, even if it is plan Z.

Heh, this is certainly not something I want to do for living - namely *nothing*

Seeing as I am going to be here mainly to do some "guarding duty" by listening the sounds of the sea. From a stone bunker, where you a.) aren't allowed to do anything save listening to said *khhhh* of the sea and b.) the job itself, like all guarding duties... is incredibly boring.

Let's say this way: I'll rather be a clerk on a local store... gets paid better(the money you get from staying in army here in Finland is not very good), work is more interesting(exponentially, if you can believe that) and you get to go home every night.

The system of army isn't voluntary here in Finland. You don't practically get paid(a whopping 3.80 euros a day...) and sometimes the things you are doing here are almost like they were made up just to have something for young men to do... like we didn't have lives outside the service or something.

But I suppose it isn't going to work any other way here, seeing as from what I gather, next to no-one would want to do this *even* if they were paid.

But thanks for suggestion and welcome anyway :D

Welcome Back, Fox-of-War. It's good to hear from you, and once you're out life will get better, since from what you say it hardly could be worse.
Getting shot at is at least living. Guarding a bunker (so nobody can steal it) is like being in a waiting room someplace.
Anyway-welcome back...

FoxOfWar, thanks for teaching me to read someone's location before I blab about reenlistment! The Finnish Army is certainly different (if I got paid a whopping 3.80 euros/day, I'd probably wig out. I definitely wouldn't have stayed in long. Conscription is something else, and I hope I never have to experience it.

Welcome back! We've missed you. You might have noticed we've been a bit busy over here, changing things around. Hope you've gotten something good out of your experiences--maybe some bragging rights, or some writing material.

Maybe a bit of both. Or if not bragging rights, at least advice for my friends what *not* to do in the army *grin*

Hmm... wonder where that booby-trapped transformation box is? *looks around*
