So me and my mate were just sitting there quietly reading and then I went to put the ferrets away and poof! Theres this tiny little praying mantis hanging out on the wall. This is the second one Ive ever seen. The first one was gigantic and was always with my mate. And while it is illegal to kill them in NJ, it just didnt feel right to kill it anyway so we put him//her outside.

Arent they supposed to be lucky? ?? :D

I love praying mantises. Believe it or not, we see quite a number of them at Burning Man. On the so-called "lifeless Playa." They come in from the marshes to the edges of the Playa and gradually turn from green to dusty brown over the course of the week.

One turned up in our camp a few years ago. She was perched on a box watching us unpack. Rather polite, actually, hands folded and watching us carefully. We gave her a nice little camp-shelter of her own and fed her hamburger all week. They make nice pets.
