Don't know for sure, but I think its real. Birds can have there feathers puffed out, all relaxed one second. Then, if they get excited or scared they'll stand up straight with their feathers flat against there bodies. My bird will do that, though it doesn't look THAT extreme.

heh he looked like a penguin after that happened..Definately weird but yea SilverClaw is right about birds, but still I must say I never seen nothin like this before

It's a defence mechanism to make it look bigger, and more predetorial, sorta like a cat. I can't read much of the Kanji, so I don't know really what it is saying.

I have to agree with Silverclaw, my birds tend to puff out their feathers or suck them in. One minute they're fat and the next they're skinny.

If that's how skinny an owl is, then i can't imagine how skinny Frogmouths are.
