Idea I had for a franchise to bring back...

I was just thinking that since Midway was bringing back their old Lightgun game Area 51 as a FPS franchise, why not do it for a lightgun game that could really do well on the consoles. Namely, CarnEvil.

IT's a game where you have to fight to survive in a twisted carnival, and I really think it would do well re-imagined as a horror FPS. If they made it a bit more serious, and took more advantage of it's carnival setting, it would work quite well.

I just started this thread for yout to toss around some ideas of what that re-imagining would be like.

Here are some videos of the original game so you get a sense of what the original game was like and what needs to be changed to make it a scarier and mroe fun game:

Nice graphics on that. That isn't very old, is it? Looks cool, though. I like the health bar, I hate the health pack system they usually put in light gun games.

I want to see a new Earthbound (who doesn't?) and a new Super Chinese game (great action based RPG that I think is comparable to Star Ocean in terms of gameplay, but never having played SO, I'm not sure... it has an overhead, classic Final Fantasy look in the overworld and in battles it goes to a cool Double Dragon style fight sequence). Super Ninja Boy (Super Chinese World in Japan) is cool, and it's two player. Check it out if you get the chance. My only complaint is that the fights are a bit shallow, but I've VERY early in the game, so I might just suck and not know how to do stuff (this might be right, actually, because I accidentally did a spin kick at one point), and there might be more that I earn later.

EDIT: Oh, wait, I get it. The track was prerendered like the backgrounds in Final Fantasy and the characters are actual models. They're still well done, though.

Yeah, but this is to talk about what a new CarnEvil would look like.

PErsonally, I think that if they brought this liscence back, made it into an FPS and made the tone more serious and dark, it could be a great srvival horror/FPS game.

Okay, I have an idea to revive this dead topic: BAsically, the idea would be for the artists and writers on here to, respectively, draw enemies/locations for (Either coming from the original game or entirely original ideas) and write a plot for a possible CarnEvil II.

To help you all out, Here are some links to sites on Carnival Rides and Carnival Freaks, as well as the Wikipedia article for the old game:

PS. I'd love to se KArzarave do something on this "Project", seeing as her art would be perfect to evoke the eerie mood which the series should have if it is revived.

OMG I remember that game. Saw it in an arcade at a mall a long time ago, must have been atleast 6 years ago. It freaked me out. Never have I seen such a twisted game.

thought I post this here too.

What the game still needs is something to draw everyones attention, either the best looking game on the market by probably using the unreal engine since everyone is using it now. Or they can make it so it allows you to do certain actions that most games wouldnt bother doing like finding whatever you have around you for weapons (ok now they are using that method) also what I liked about the arcade version is the feel that you are completely overwhelm with mosnters coming after you. It should still retain that in intense parts but still be plenty of suspenseful moments.

I would make the game a FPS for sure, it should be where you can freely explore the park and get on the rides while shooting elves and walking over rail ways and so on. I like the idea of customizing or upgrading your weapons which so that should be added in there. The game should have lots neat little events but barely anything scripted, for example you can walk around the corner and you can see a bunch of clowns putting seasoning on this young women or child or whatever, and the clowns wont bother with you but if you want you can save that person by killing the other clowns and probably get a reward like a upgrade weapons part or a clue to where some valuable things are.

What do you think? :D

They made a new earthbound (mother 3), but it is not available in the US

NIntendo said that it might appear here if enough people buy the original on the virtual console.

I love CarnEvil since it came out in October 31, 1998. The game is very original, including the music, the enemies, the lands, and the story. The pump-shotgun is a very good idea for a arcade shooter. I wished they would make the levels longer and a bit more enemies on each of the levels. The graphics looks good and still today.

If only Midway will port CarnEvil 1 into the Nintendo Wii with exclusive features and the making.

Also, CarnEvil 2 on Xbox 360 and PS3.
