I haven't seen them in a long time, but the second one represents a large segment of what is/was(?) wrong with Disney: straight to video sequels. However, I will give it credit for two things: It wasn't one of those retarded three segment anthologies they were doing, and it kept up the loose Shakespeare basis that the first one had going (first one was Hamlet, second one was Romeo and Juliet). It was basically a real sequel, even with songs and s***, just made for video instead of theater. However, I can't give it a real judgment because I haven't seen it in years. The critics loved the first one, though, I think.

I can't really have a judgment on a movie that I can pretty much remember, but not enough. And don't worry, I'm not talking crap about the songs.

1 was probably one of the best animation-movies of the 90's, and I saw it in theatres then. It still could have been better if it wasn't done by Disney though IMO.
I didn't get to see part 2 and since that movie was DTV I'm not sure I want to see it...

Loved the original, and #2 was one of the few direct-to-videos that I actually liked.

I liked the first one the best just because it was the start of the duo...
And because it had Simba in it

hes cool!

The Lion King (both 1 and 2) have really influenced my childhood and my life. I feel in love with the characters, especially the villians Scar and Zira, and the music was wonderful (I'm a big Elton John fan as well). The movies helped influence my love for felines and other wildlife, plus 2-D animation. And I know that the sequel had its problems with the plot and story but I still enjoyed the movie. I remember when I was young, I collected every, single LK book, stuff animal, and toy I could get my hands on; I was a huge fan! Sadly, I don't have the stuff animals anymore, or the books. I do however have two of the toys.

Thats funny, because the Elton John-soundtrack was the only thing I found much too sweet about the film, even as a child.

One and a half had good animation, it was not even close to being as good as the first or second.

The second one sucked because it was the exact same story with different characters.
Kid rejects what is expected of him/her, falls in love, everything's happy.....

techniqually its not...
in the first one, their king died, simba go bye bye, scar rules, simba come back with rafikis help after meeting tamon and pumba, simba fight scar, scar die, hyenas go bye bye, simba rules with nala
in 2. simba and nala have child, kiara act like simba, she meet kovu, they run, get in trouble, go seperate ways, kovu goes baddie, kiara gets older, gets to go hunt on her own, T and P follow by simbas order, she get pissed, she trapped in fire, kovu save her, rafiki gets them in love, they stop fight, they join with outsiders, bad lady go bye bye in water...
VERY different
