Proposition to ban the current Pack Chat

Post by Kaebora »

Due to some of the identity theft problems of the current "official" chatroom, I propose we shut it down and replace it with something more reliable. The problems have been everything from people pretending to be forum members and saying nasty things, spammers/spambots, and even a whole host of connection issues some members claim to have.

I had already set up a more regulated chatroom before Mr. Brownrigg set up the new one. I still beleive the old one has better and safer features.

Official Chat Room - Hosted by ABrownrigg
Alternate Chat Room - Hosted by Kaebora

The newer chatroom has no moderation at all. But mine does. As the admin, I can send an announcement, kick a user, or even promote a user to moderator status. General users get the added benifit of the help menu, more graphical smilies, text formatting, invites for a user to join your current chat room, changing from one chat room to another, private messages, action text, ignoring other users, and saving messages.

Most importantly, you can SAVE your profile so that nobody else can use it. Therefore, if someone has stolen your name, you can report it to me so I can delete it and allow you to claim the name. Identity theft... ZARCHED into oblivion. The only thing the original chatroom doesn't have... is sound. Bah, whatever. Why did we even need the new one anyways? So, shall we delete the new one and put the old one back in it's place?

Any thoughts? Opinions?

I like a hidden or secure conversation room, one with password protection.

Yes, you can do that. Every member can start in a "private chat" with password protection if they want to avoid the main lobby. That, coupled with password protecting the profiles, makes it much safer.

With yours can you still do RP, one to one chat etc?

Or else they prefer argumentum ad hominem,
Which is a hell of a way to conduct a discussion."

This seems like a good idea, Mabey we should just replace the pack chat link on the front page and just put it under kaebora or ABs chat in it.

I tried Kaebora's chat a while back and it seemed to work all right... so I'm all for it. Best to have just one regular chat room (less chance of missing people that way).

If anyone can find a better chatroom (webpage) software, let me know. There's always a better solution. At the moment I suppose this is just the quick and easy route, unless I can find a nice upgrade.

Yep. You can even make a seperate room within the chatroom just in case some people don't want to participate.
