How can there be thoughts without words?

Since this is a werewolf forum, what would a wolf's thoughts sound like?

I suppose, knowing what we know now, that it would be more images than anything else. No words as we understand it. Remembering things by sound, sight, and most importantly, smell. Like, associating what they perceive in front of them with a memory(s) from earlier in their lives.

What do you think? A wolf is a instinctual animal, so it makes instinctive reaction and responses. From there, let your mind do the rest.

I'd imagine not too different from being human and not thinking in words...

You've never had an animal life, have you? I'm surprised you even have to ask.

Probably thinking in terms of pictures, sounds, and scents. Sometimes I shut down the streaming internal monologue and put on pause whatever song is going in my head. The resulting silence is refreshing. After a minute or so, impressions and feelings take over.

You can also get a feel for what it's like without the internal dialogue by getting up at two in the morning, just to see what it's like to be too tired to think.

I think all the time without words and they get annoyed with myself for wasting time by putting it into words in my mind.

That's because they aren't scavengers. Wolves have to think to catch prey. Not eat dead animals and root in human garbage. (Or be domesticated for that matter.) Even domesticated wolves are still smarter than dogs, which I've seen first hand. They're smart enough to know they don't have to obey or tolerate people that don't feed them.

Wolves do a lot more then just eating. Wolves have a complex family-pack structure that could beat our organisation any day.

We have different organization methods , it's hard to compare them with a wolves pack, we can't leave someone to die because he is weak and yet, I can actually find some resemblances between them.

It's a bit confusing what I try to say, like they can be very different and yet have similarities

Wolves are just dogs. Glorified Dogs. COOL, mysterious dogs whose history captivates people, but yes, they're just dogs. they aren't NOBLE, or MAGICAL, or TRANSCENDANT. And by the way, yes, I was making a joke :} I guarantee you someone found it funny :D

mork, my first movie job was researching wolves for a feature animated film. I researched them for nine months. I DO know a lot about wolves. I just refuse to see them as being MORE special than say, people.

I can't even fathom why you would say such a thing.

Can we please keep the personal attacks out of the discussions? If you have something hateful to say to someone, use a Private Message. If there's one thing I don't like its reading all these hateful messages.

what i don't get ( and continue to be baffledby ) is how i can make a joke about wolves and have someone get so mad at it, that they wish bodily harm on me. I just...don't...get it.

If it helps at all Matt, I chuckled when I read your joke :)

The ability to debate and philosophize is overrated. If a wolf is capable of making moral decisions on ANY level then they are people. Neither species should be glorified. Just because human thought is more complex does not make it "better."

I know next to nothing about the scientific anaylsis of other species. I still heavily doubt anyone has it all figured out.

He may value wolves quite highly, much more then people. When you made that joke he saw it as demeaning them and maybe as an attack. Therefore his less the polite repsonces That what i think anyway. Thats what i think Matt.

Oh and i don't think humans are teh uber race but it angers me when people start bashing us then go on about how great wolves are. As said. Neither animal is better.
