The mystery of Goofy revealed!

Post by Scott Gardener »

The Disney character Goofy--for years, people have wondered what the heck is he? The general consensus has been that he is an anthropomorphic dog, but Walt Disney himself ages ago said that he was a mule. The fact that he and Pluto are decidedly different in terms of physiology and morphology have long left in question whether he was a dog or something else. Some have suggested that he is part canine and part human.

This lead Cathey, my wife, to approach me with a startling revelation, that Goofy is in fact... a lycanthrope. A werewolf.

He has walked among us all this time, and none of us have known. It leads one to wonder how many others have hidden in plain sight?

And, this also leads to the next inevitable image, the Donald toss!
Taking a Gestalt approach, since it's the "in" thing...

If Goofy IS a werewolf...

...then I will renounce all ties to my own lycanthropy, just to avoid the embarassment of being related to him.

It all makes perfect sense. Nevermind 'The Goof' never once shapeshifted on screen. Uncle Walt was very crafty one, covering that up!

Ooooo. Delicious conspiracy. lck

Actually, with that laugh, he does sound like a mule.

He can't be a mule, he has a son!

That he does. But I never ever seen Goofy's wife.

So could Max be adopted?

Possible, but isn't that too much of a family resemblance? Or are we to assume all mules look like each other? I vaguely seem to remember Goofy talking to Max about his mother, but I might be mistaken.

Uh.....huh... look I'm fairly critical of Disney myself but reading into such things too deeply.

Besides, I'd take such things over the political correctness of modern animated films anyday.

And, of course, all of you completely ignore the fact that Goofy was originally known as Dippy Dog. He was also said to have a thing for the cow that was in the cartoons with him. I forget her name.

...And yet another person, who may have too much time on his hands, ignores something. Only this time it's the fact that Goofy is a CARTOON and the normal rules of life don't apply to cartoons.

I saw the thing about Goofy as Dippy Dog on a tv program about old Disney cartoons, in case you're wondering. It also said alot of other things like cartoons were originally made for adults and they contained alot of innuendo. I forget the name of the program though.

Cartoons have alot of innuendo because they wanted the parents to enjoy them too. that's why you get alot of refrences most kids don't get.

I know one thing about some cartoons. Kids will laugh at a pie thrown in the face. But they may not laugh at whats being said by the character. Its usually something adults will understand and laugh at.

Like in Disney's Atlantis, where Rourk said "P.T. Barnum was right." Kids wouldn't understand that he was referring to the quote "There's a sucker born every minute." but they would think it's funny when Milo sits on the whoopi cusion. (/end example)
