I was very surprised when I saw that. He was very funny...if a little crude at times. :(

George was my all time favorite comedian.

Now who will rage against the stupidity of the world?

George Carlin was one of those rare people who could tell you that you were foolish, careless, and vain; and you'd be laughing as he told you that.

He was one of a rare breed of truly funny people who were naturally humerous and able to make even the most hard headed of people laugh at themselves.

In many ways he was like Mark Twain; telling the truth and making it palatable by making you laugh as he said it.

He will be sorely missed. :howl: :oo

His "stuff" became his "personal effects"

Post by Scott Gardener »

I really admired him--his wit and his ability to cut through the crap to get to the heart of matters. His play with the screwiness of the English language in particular was a favorite of mine. The best skit I remember would have to be his commentary on how "shell shock" in WWI became "battle fatigue" in WWII, and then "operational exhaustion" after the Korean War, and finally "post-traumatic stress disorder" after the war in Viet Nam. Not only was it witty, but he ended with a powerful statement about how the increasingly bureaucratic and obfuscating euphamisms made it harder for people to understand and relate to people with serious emotional injuries, leading to the neglect of a generation of war veterans.

I'm sure he'd have to point out how much of a [quack]ing hypocrite myself for bandying about words like "obfuscating," and he'd have me laughing in tears doing it.

It's just not right. He went before his [squeeky]ing time. Wherever he is, I'm sure he's telling the others there to skip Earth for the next few thousand years, so we can kill each other off and then the native plant and animal life can have a chance to regrow. The food was great, but the service sucked.
Taking a Gestalt approach, since it's the "in" thing...

I only agreed with him about 1/4 the time, but there's no denying that he was absolutely brilliant. He shall be missed.
