Seriously, they hang that way because
1: their feet are their only way to grip.
2: release and fly, no energy demanding takeoff.
3: the ceiling is farther away from critters that eat bats.
4: if they slept on the floor, they would get covered in bat-poop from the ones on the ceiling.

Actually, bats can grip with their wingtips, but not nearly as firmly or with as much dexterity. I saw one up close once when I was a kid, and while it could grip at the top of the cage with its wings and hang right-side up, it couldn't "walk around" the same way it could with its feet.RedEye wrote:Uhhh...no hands?

I found a baby bat in my parents' hallway. It was totally cute.
I put him in a jar overnight to make sure he wasn't rabid or anything and let him go outside the next day.
