Quoth Lupin:
Since 1929, Republicans and Democrats have each controlled the presidency for nearly 40 years. So which party has been better for American pocketbooks and capitalism as a whole? Well, here's an experiment: imagine that during these years you had to invest exclusively under either Democratic or Republican administrations. How would you have fared?
As of Friday, a $10,000 investment in the S.& P. stock market index* would have grown to $11,733 if invested under Republican presidents only, although that would be $51,211 if we exclude Herbert Hoover's presidency during the Great Depression. Invested under Democratic presidents only, $10,000 would have grown to $300,671 at a compound rate of 8.9 percent over nearly 40 years.

Bring back that Andrew Jackson bloke. He will probably duel the economy into submission, along with all the animals in your topic title. Sorry, just read this:

I suppose I should warn that the article contains swearing or something.

Okay, that was a complete [expletive]ing waste of space and you know it.
Regarding Baph's link, well. . . I've since sent via e-mail or shown it directly to at least twelve people, and while the reactions varied, they all consisted of two-word exclamations, the first one always being "holy" and the second one being. . . Well, you get the idea.
Twas my reaction too: "Holy shnykies."

I'd love to see the Founding Fathers tackle today's problems. (I know, Andrew Jackson was one generation later, but he was close.) George Washington would have freed Iraq in the first three months like we thought we would. Thomas Jefferson would have had social issues like abortion and immigration nailed by the end of the year. Alexander Hamilton would have balanced the budget overnight. And, Ben Franklin would have personally invented a new clean energy technology that would make oil and gasoline obsolete.
OK, I exaggerate. They'd have a tough time with our mess over here in America, too. But, it's kind of refreshing to see good minds like Obama and McCain for a change, as "politics as usual" for the past twenty years has really gotten old.

And the blessing of our form of government is that we get exactly what we deserve. We are ultimately responsible for how our parties act, and remember; the Government is still US.
We got lazy, now we pay for it. That's fair.
