My dog sometimes used to do something similar. She would bark lightly and twitch a lot during sleep.
In humans this is what is known as night terrors. Children get it a lot because their developing brains don't produce enough of the neutrotransmitters called Serotonin and GABA. These inhibit movement during sleep. I used to get them, and let me tell you... waking up from a night terror leaves you breifly dazed, confused, disoriented, and sometimes even hallucinating. I woke up once and could see spiders crawling all over me, and I couldn't move. That freaked me out, even after they faded away and movement returned.

That sleepwalking dog was awfully cute though.
