That may be the god like quality. There is also another book series call wolf's rain that has a few theries on werewolf orgins. hwlwnk

I hate to possibly start up a semantics argument, but a god taking the form of a wolf is not a werewolf.

A werewolf is and always will be a creature involving human transformation.

Ummmm...

Amaterasu O-mi-Kami is a Sun Goddess! She is the source of life in Japan (if you're Shinto).
And yes, She did take the form of a wolf.

But She wasn't a Werewolf. That is reserved for Humans.

Wolf's Rain is an anime series made a few years ago, not a book. Also, it was about wolves that had the power to give themselves human illusions, so they could blend in with regular humans. No actual transformations and no werewolves. :)

I don't think werewolves were ever seen as gods...not that I know of anyways. Maybe god-like in that they have the power to become wolves and do things they could never do as just humans. Werewolves of folklore were not pure good or evil. It was whatever the individual was. So we are kindof going back to basics here, making what werewolves are like based on the person, instead of automatically pure evil like Hollywood turned it into.
:)
