First Ed mcmahon, then farah fawcett...now Michael. These things always come in threes.

i gotta say, I'm stunned and saddened.

*shrugs* I wasn't an 80's child. Micheal Jackson is nothing but a cheap pop-cultural joke to me. I wish I could have appreciated him the way generations before me have; but at least he died at a point where he still had fans to mourn him. (?)

upward it's too bad you didn't grow up in the 80's because this means a lot to a LOT of people. This is as big or bigger than Elvis, and I think maybe this doesn't man much to you because you didn't grow up with jackson's music and celebrity. These days, a song is #1 for maybe 5 minutes. back in the day a successful artist had hit after hit...they had longevity.

Don't be so cynical. Despite what you think, this is HUGE news.

This is very sad news, his music has been around me my entire life, (80's child as well, he did have two full albums in the nineties and a remix album with new five new songs, he is not just an 80's artist.) I have all his work from Off The Wall To Invincible. :(

I wasn't either. I was born in 84 -- he'd already been in and out of court by the time I was old enough to put a name to a face, much less understand the significance of his accomplishments. But that doesn't mean I can't respect what he did as an artist, and it especially doesn't mean I can't show some respect to the recently deceased.

He's been dead, what, three hours and already you gotta' line up and start taking cheap shots at him? Geez, I hope people are nicer at your funeral. :P

the passing of a legend......another king leaves his throne.
well I was born in 87 so I definitely had no knowledge of him until I was in high school apart from his name, or hearing some of his songs. But his voice was the real thing. So I respect him. His life will definitely be in musical history books as one of the greatest singers of our time. It makes me wonder what new talent will replace him...

Wow, its crazy. I didn't care for him, but just his music. Especially in his prime. I miss the way he was before all the crazy weird stuff happened.

Terestas and Matt: I'm sorry. I officially revoke that comment and apologize to those for which this means a lot to. It wasn't appropriate for a thread dedicated to the recently deceased.

I'm from '86, so I'm not that familiar with his history as well. But my brothers and family were always very fond of his music, and I could see why.

I think its sad that he died at the age of 50 though. It seems that all great popstars die earlier.

I suddenly have the urge to dance to "Thriller" in his honor. I give my condolences to the Jackson family, and may the King of Pop rest in peace.

When I first heard, I thought it was a joke. I kept waiting for the punchline. But, then I checked CNN. It was hard to believe. It still is.

A few weeks ago, we lost David Carradine. Then we lost Ed McMahon, and then Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson. I've just learned we even lost Billy Mayes, the OxyClean infomercial guy. I'm getting afraid to look at the news lately, wondering who's next.

Though I hated what MJ became in his later years I love his music still, Thriller is still a briliant song and even if you just had the dance of it, its still good.

RIP MJ
