Dean Dodrill is an old friend of mine. An amazingly talented animator, he just won Microsoft's Drema play Build Competition with an entry most of you will get a kick out of.

Most definitely is. I remember seeing an incomplete WIP animation of Elysian Tail on fchan years back. I'm surprised it actually grew into an actual game.

And maybe for the better, the Muramasa/Odin Sphere-style choice of game design is a pretty good choice.

Seriously, why would a cool video game like Elysian Tail be featured on a porn site?

Scratch that, I don't want to know.

And again with that reflex of yours.

And why? Well, because if it's furry, it gets crammed into a pile of anything that's furry regardless of quality. But this was a time when fchan was still decent and not really a website where one of the only remaining original founders isn't at the mercy of 3 simultaneous dictatorships. It was that long ago.

Kitetsu has a point, and this game is one more reason why I wish the furry fandom didn't exist. I swear there can never be a discussion about something like the worgen in World of Warcraft, or Elysian Tail, or even something harmless like Fantastic Mr. Fox, without someone dropping the F-bomb. I should be able to enjoy something without having to deal with, "are YOU a furry? Is THIS furry? Here, let me confront you with my personal opinion about FURRY! Which side are YOU on? Wrong side, buddy, let the flaming commence!"

Actually, if I had to guess, i would think it's projects like Noogy's that would make furry more mainstream. No, he does NOT consider himself a furry. He's not a fan of the pornography, and if you asked him I'm sure he wouldn't call Elysian tail a furry game. It's the same reason I refuse to call Camp Lycanthrope a "furry" movie. I always say "It's a werewolf movie"

i didn't bring up fchan. i reacted to it the way most people do when stumbling upon it. I cringe.

Wow, looks great. Something that I want in a game for years.

Sure, you don't have to call this independent video game a 'Furry' one. The art direction is more like fantasy anthro. The characters are anthropomorphic animals in a fantasy world.

The art, the animation, the characters, the action, and the music looks beautiful.

I need a 360 now!

I personally find the idea of people going "eeeeww Fchan" and then subsequently "what does it mean to be a "furry" piece of media" a bit silly really. On the first, well it's a porn site, who cares? It’s not like most are going to look at it and on top of that ED, 4chan and various other places have been mentioned here without someone reacting. It’s a bit silly to react to what is basically another fap site: Something common on the WWW. If you don't like it then simply never visit it. :P

Anyway, on if it’s a furry game or not. Personally that subject is a large one in itself. Some people honestly consider simple anthropomorphic art to be furry while others do not. Therefore to call this game idea "furry" would be to acknowledge this and go into that debate. On the other hand, remember that furries love seeing anthropomorphic games etc. Therefore seeing it shown around on furry hotspots would be a logical way of drawing attention to it and increasing its popularity.

It's come to my attention that there are actually furries themselves who're getting tired of gaming sites and other furries who're overpromoting the furry aesthetic of this game in their articles (based on their opinions anyway), and this really really really really REALLY irritates me, because it sounds like they're trying to isolate games that's technically made within their own fandom, even if the game looks as competent as Elysian Tail, and especially when they're ignoring these merits:

- It's made by Dean Dodrill with the help of 2 composers. One single guy largely responsible a game that's roughly half the aesthetic quality as a game made by a 20-man team like Vanillaware.

- It's been drama-free long enough for it to win enough recognition for him to take competition booty. In fact it's fighting for a spot for it to be an XBOX 360 downloadable.

- The game itself chose a somewhat universally-accepted type of game design.

I personally haven't played anything that actually came out of the fandom and not a game-making company who might as well be closet furries. And by that I mean anything that's good. So I don't understand why furries are going through so much trouble to declare how much they don't care about their David Beckhams being noticed by outsiders for once. At least Becks himself used to be a crazy-good soccer player.
