Fine-I'm late to this discussion. Here's what I say...


In the Western Hemisphere, people changing into animals was often
acceptable and fine, not necessarily evil, nor good (depends on the person.)

Maybe I'm just a traditionalist, but I LIKE the metaphor of puberty and lycanthropy.
All those changes, not being comfortable in your own body, general confusion, etc.

I thought the acting for Dr Van Helsing was spot-on, myself. I thought it was just PERFECT that he was so jaded that he was just rattling off details of someone's gruesome death while cutting a rare steak....

if "Werewolves of Luna" can be considered a werewolf story despite having no change, no wolf, and no werewolf, then this one fits as well.

I enjoyed that. We've all been culprits at some stage (Hell, I don't even know half the internet slang, ask Word Wolf!), but maybe we can help some others out too.

What makes me laugh about the whole arguing thing is that some furries are therians, and some therians are furries.

What is even funnier, is I didn't notice there was a "war" until recently. (I'm not -always- zoned out, just not in the loop, because I don't try be to be...so nobody laugh! :P ...

Oh feh. The difference between therian and furry has been argued about and run into the ground so many times I stopped counting. I personally don't see that much of a difference in the two. I've been in both therian and furry communities for years and the only real difference I've run across is ...

if you got involved in the therian community early enough,
the word "therianthropy" was unknown, as was "therian".
Wolf therians were called "spiritual werewolves" and things along the line.

If you're worried about use and copyright infringement,
if the thing is several hundred years old,
I expect the statute of limitations has run out on it.
So long as you're not using the actual woodcut (the wooden thing
is in your hands), you should be able to use its likeness as a graphic.

I don't see why ever is always ready to jump to the "scientific" rules. The world is a lot more interesting is you believe in something to be true.

But believing you can fly like Superman is such a drag when you
actually jump off a roof and find that gravity will not accomodate you...

I have only read two books on werewolves. The passion and The promise, both by Donna Boyd. Im surprised that no one has mentioned them.

Night of the Wolf and Silverwolf, both excellent werewolf stories with a little romance thrown in

The eastern Native American tribes thru the Cherokee were a lot
cooler with the idea of what we would think of as a werewolf
than the western tribes thru the Navajo.

To them, there was a more respectful attitude towards animals,
not so much a fear reaction towards animals they didn't control ...
