I don't care...

Macs are sucky always overheating, freezing up peices of s***! There is over a million reasons why i hate those retarded glitchy heaps of trash.

and the only reason why macs don't have alot of viruses is because macs are a substandard over piriced dollar store calculators that don't need any help with crashing on it's own.

And also the mac's hardware i won't even consider wipping my own butt with. They may look cool, but they are impossible to upgarde by one's self and hey over heat worse than a eskimo in the middle of the siberian dessert!

Take it apart and check under the keys after giving them a nice cleaning. if that doesnt work, try checking their connection

This sounds like a very strange problem. Clearly, no one here has any idea how to fix it, (I've never encountered such a thing myself), and are more interested in ranting about Hardware/Software wars than giving any practical advice.

My advice. Call the Customer Support line and ask for professional help.

...those guys are TRAINED to know how to fix this stuff. Take advantage of it.

I would definately reccomend talking to someone over the phone, or contact by E-Mail before bringing it into a shop though. The shops will just look at it, see that it is broken, and just start replacing parts untill it starts working again...then charge you for all of it, even if all you needed was a Firmware update. (Which would be free, if that is your problem).

Surely the machine must have come with paperwork with a number for the Customer support Hotline, or a link to a CS website in your Help Menu.

I'm not an expert on the subject, but it sounds like either your firmware is incorrect, or the hardware is physically defective.

Has it done this since the day you bought it, or did this begin after you changed something in the Hardware / Software?

If it has been doing this since day one, there is a name for that..."Defecteive"...make them send you a new one.

Give me as many details as you can, and I'll try to find out the best course of action to fix it.

1. When did this problem start?

2. Do you notice a pattern of when the keys work/don't work, or is it completely random?

3. How long have you had this computer?

4. Has anything of note happend to the machine before this began (even weeks or months before)? Spilled on...Dropped...severe Software crash requiring re-intalation of hardware drivers?

**5. Is the machine still under Warrantee?

look if your going to insult me or my operating system, which hasnt crashed ONCE in the three months ive had it do it in the thread i made, i realisze that you say that they are glitchy, when i open two programs on my school windows, it crashes, i live in Rochester, MN otherwise known as the IBM capital of america, these school computers are brand new this year. my three year old one gigahertz macintosh can run faster and cooler than the new desktops, and macintosh will never go with enron, WHY you ask, one word iPOD

First off i wasn't dissing you i was dissing those sorry excuse for computers.

Well the it's completely opposite of my expereince. When i use the PC at home, school, or at the library it's reliable, and it works completely fine.

but every time i use a mac they over heat, they freeze, and every time i'm on the intermet with the peices of crap, they keep on loosing the damn server!

and also another reason i love PCs it because they are very versitile. they can go every where if you got the right equiptment... ive seen PCs in factory machinery, air planes, hospitals, ETC. People can easily upgarde the PC if they are smart enough to read! and look at this where was the last time you saw businesses selling custom PCs that THEY made, and not from a macintosh factory. I'm seen modders do some crazy, awesome stuff with PCs. I haven't seen alot of cool mac hacks. and all macs can do is sit there and eventually crash with their gay pin wheel thing of fun in the center on the screen.

have you used osX not os9 (yay me num pad worked) os9 is just possibly the worst operating system ever devised, you say youve seen a lot of mac hacs. ive seen many more linux hacks, and linux uses unix, the operating language of (guess what) MACINTOSH, windows is still stuck in the 90's with MS-DOS, also for the average consumer hacks really dont mean that much, what i look for is free software that helps improve existing software, ie clutter, trillian, etc. which there is far more with the macintosh operating system because DESIGNERS use it why, you ask, because it is more reliable than windows, not to mention much easier to use

I'm not talking about soft ware i'm talking about HARDWARE!

also I AM talking about the current OS! Even if and i stress IF! macs have better software, their hardware is junk! i don't care if you throw some meaningless computer geek jargen at me, in life PC's actualy work, and windows is idiot proof! It took me less than an hour find where every thing is, but macs have you go searching and searching threw menues to just to change the flippen desktop! It is reliable it is simple to use you're just too dumb to figure it out!

All macs are just trendy because their sleek looking cases and macintosh's clever marketing. An image to hide the buggy software, and barely working hardware.

Um Anubis, I hate to say it, but macs have the superior hardware. It runs so much more fluently than PC, which is why its more expensive than PC itself.

The only thing that PC has on Macs is that its cheap, common and more companies make programs and games for it.

If none of you have any intention of trying to help geekboy, I think you all should just SHUT UP!!!!!

...for goodness sake...

Take this pointless squabble elsewhere...there are other threads for this.

If your response has nothing to do with finding a solution to fixing Geekboy1500's keybord, then zip your lip and go bash your least favorite hardware plaform elsewhere...because NONE OF THIS is at all helplful to this conversation.

GEEZ...

Geekboy...

I repeat my previous advice. This is NOT a common problem. I think you should seek trained, professional help on this. A keyboard hardwired into a laptop should never behave like that.

Again, it must either be corrupted firmware (which is more difficult to update than normal software, and dangerous to do if you don't know what you are doing, as you could make your computer useless if you screwed it up), or a physically defective keyboard. ...which happens to hardware made by ANY manufacturer. Machines as complex as computers break down on thier own sometimes...it's a fact of life.

You might want to be careful when you make statements that are as false as that one, here's the uptime for several linux boxes I have access to:

SHAME ON YOU LUPIN. You are a MODERATOR!!!!!

What is this thread about? What are you ranting about?

As a moderator, your job is to help keep things organized, friendly and on track...not ENCOURAGE people to hijack threads for thier petty personal loyalties to corperate manufacturers.
Macs run smoother, but are less versitile due to thier exclusivity, and non-compatability of thier proprietary OS.

Windows is Designed to be Easier to use for the computer Illiterate, and IS...when it is working right. Widows, due to it's bloated feature set and coding, it the least stable, but is an unequaled asset when it is fine-tuned and running.

Linux (and all of it's cousins) are the most stable, but are Nigh Impossible to use if you are not an educated geek, partially fluent in at least one programming language.
You are all right, and you are all wrong. But None of this is Helpful to Geekboy.

Start a New Thread if you absolutely must continue this War...just take it elsewhere. This is not the place for that.

You're mistaken, I'm not ranting about anything.

I'm trying to point out that all operating systems have their strenghts and weaknesses (and that users can be very dumb, but that's a different tangent.) Linux is stable, Macs have a consistant user interface, and Windows is ubiquitous. Conversely, Linux has a high learning curve, Macs have limited hardware selection, (though that might be changing now, x86 and whanot) and Windows has a tendancy to crash/break in weird ways. The point was to diffuse the "My OS is better than your OS" flame-fest that is erupting in this thread. If you think that was a rant, you're terribly mistaken.

So it wasn't a rant...

...but whatever the heck it WAS, it was NOT relevant to the topic at hand.

You didn't even have any indication in your entrire response that you were even aware that this thread is about a malfunctioning laptop keyboard, and methods for repairing one.

I think the reason why there is no documentation about this perticular problem online is because this type of malfuction is the sort of thing that makes you send the computer back to the factory right away, without a second thought.

The hardware should WORK the day it arrives.

If it doesn't, it's "Defective". That is what 'Warrantees' are for. ...this stuff happens. (To ALL computers.)
