The first option was already mentioned, and I hate "me too" posts.
Hardware-wise, laptops really aren't user servicable beyond RAM/HDD/Battery replacement due to their small form factor, so I'm not about to suggest the second option. Thus, I figured that matter closed, unless he can supply more information on how it's not working.
