Jumping

Post by Silverclaw »

I am not sure how high the werewolves will be able to jump in this movie. But their is a good chance they will be able to jump higher than humans.
One big thing to avoid with it is the floating effect. In a lot of movies like X-Men for example, a superhuman character will jump up onto a ledge or whatever. But it looks more like they are Peter Pan than anything else. Slowish in mid-air and then landing with no force or weight. It just really sticks out to me; very annoying. Just thought I'd give a tip along with my mini-rant

There's a small bit of a discussion about this hidden in another topic. It starts at Eridani's post here and continues to the end of the next page.

My own opinion (which is discussed in further detail in that thread) is that a werewolf would be able to jump at most a few feet higher than a human.

And I agree, that floating effect you mention is often very annoying.

Heh, you see that a lot in some of these Japanese karate movies. Moves no human can possibly do. :D

Ooh, funny jumping. I admit, it's fun to see it once or twice, or in comic books or animation. But anything else it's just too glaring. Unless we're dealing with Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon or it's various knockoffs.

Slow jumps like that are only a decent effect when everything else (including sound effects) is slowed down to the same pace. It worked well in The Matrix because they emphasized that nothing in the Matrix itself was actually happening, but in martial arts movies, it just looks silly.

Werewolves having tails was the first thing we established at this forum, and I'm pretty certain werewolves being athletic only with practice and within reason was the other.

No...the forbidding of wall-climbing werewolves was probably the second thing we established after tails...but yeah. No instant super-wolves. It takes practice to learn to move like that. ... That and the laws of physics, (gravity and momentum) apply to werewolves too.

I wouldn't think they can hop very good, not on digitigrade legs. But posibly being stronger they could hopefully jump better than a human. With a longer stride they should be able to leap farther than a human too.

No about the floating: Eh, no. I dont want to see the floating etheir. Nor softly hitting the ground with no trouble, yet I also hope that they dont shake the ground like a whole building just colasped.

Hunh? Why would that be a hinderance? The animal kingdoms best jumpers ALL have digitgrade legs. If anything, that would increase their potential jumping ability. The shape/stance of the digitgrade foot/leg is designed around adding extra "spring" to the animals step for more forward (or "upward") thrust. Olympic athletes try to mimic that gait in running and jumping events because that yeilds the most power and speed when running on ones toes.

...so...umm...yeah... Digitgrade legs would Help. Image
