The Fountain

Post by MoonKit »

Saw this movie the other day and I loved it! (my mate did too!) Its staring Hugh Jackman and Rachael Weisz...both great actors. And it is directed by Darren Aronofsky.

"Spanning over one thousand years, and three parallel stories, The Fountain is a story of love, death, spirituality, and the fragility of our existence in this world." From Imdb.com

It was a great movie. The people in the theater either applauded it or left a half an hour in. I have to admit it does move a little slow but it was a beautiful movie and well acted. Who knew Hugh Jackman could seriously act? I loved it! And Im getting it when it comes to DVD. It was also a very sad movie so be warned...my mate had tears in his eyes at least once though he wont admit it.

Wow...watching the trailer made me wanna see it again. :D

I saw it, but I didn't think it was as good as the prestige, I didn't like the fact that the three stories never really conected, they were just there and it only focused on the middle one for most of the movie, and then when you thought something amazing was going to happen for the middle one, like it happened for the others, it ended.

Its one of my favorite chracter struggles. The horrors of immortality. So far the movie "Tuck Everlasting" and "The Green Mile" were the best portrayals of this that I've seen. I should see this movie for my birthday next week.

Well the stories do connect in a way. Because the one with Spain is Izzy's story and real at the same time. And in the future, he still has the tatoos. *shrugs* I dont know. Not a lot of people liked it. Ive never seen so many people walk out of a movie. But I loved it. It seems that you either loved it or didnt care for it. But it was definatly a thinking movie and a great concept, if nothing else.

Saw it on Thanksgiving. My Ghod, what a film! I was starting to notice that the current crop of films are utterly craptastic, then my friend and I chanced upon this gem.
I don't have a television and she's a working stiff, so we didn't see the preview and I don't listen to critics anyway, so we didn't get the negative hype that's bouncing around. We thought it rocked.
I haven't been this engaged in a film in years. I've been haunting the Fountain board on IMBd, pretty much posting and reading a couple times a day. I can understand how some people wouldn't get it; I did and when I read someone trolling or flaming the film, I just sigh and quote Einstein, "Great spirits have always encountered violent opposition by the mediocre."
My friend who saw it with me said that people don't like it because it's not an American-style film, it has more in common with European filmmaking. The hole in that theory is that it got booed off the screen at Cannes, but they do that a lot.
What I loved about it is that it's so open to interpretation. I got a million theories the first twenty-four hours after seeing it and I can't wait to see it again to test them out. I will *definitely* be getting the DVD.
I wouldn't recommend it for everyone. If you haven't seen it yet, don't go expecting to be entertained. You can sit home and watch television for that. Go, and be prepared to THINK. And think radially, not linearly. It does make sense, but in the same way Escher's artwork makes sense. I advised on my blog that one should go with a (preferably smart) friend and be prepared to talk about it over coffee for a couple hours afterwards.
