WB animation is remaking the Thundercats as an animated TV series.
The animation style is whimsical, Americanized-anime, along the lines of Teen Titans.
The setting is modern-day Earth, in a major city (possibly LA)
The Thundercats are all teenagers.
Their leader is Snarf (!) who is now a mystic with a "third" eye.
Each of the Thundercats has a weapon with an "Eye of Thunderra" and transformative powers (not just Lion-O)
When they aren't fighting evil, the Thundercats play together as a rock band. That's not a typo, or a joke. They are rockin' cats in their present form.
Mum-Ra now has wings.
And I bet he laughs a bit more than he used to =P
Developing...
I never saw the original, but it sounds like they're really screwing with it in the remake. A rock band? Maybe they'll start off doing opening gigs for Josie and the Pussycats.
Taking a Gestalt approach, since it's the "in" thing...
I could care less if I am a "freak". I don't care what other people think about me. I am me. I am different from the masses of society in unique and profound ways, anyway. Being physically different would trouble me not
You gotta' be kidding. Even the Thundercats didn't deserve this kind of treatment. Snerf their leader? A teenage rock band? Will Mum-Ra's wings be the butterfly variety?
Honestly, why should anyone care? For all you guys know, the new Thundercats might even be BETTER than the old one.
Not convinced? Here's why you shouldn't worry.
Thundercats...was crap. Sorry, it was. It was a toyline-based toon with no substance, comprised of cookie-cutterplot devices, the same used and over-used in EVERY stinking 80's cartoon there ever was. IE: Character gets shrunk. Character fights evil twin. Character lies, then has to go around hiding the fact that he/she lied And so on. Also, I hated the character designs. They looked like regular old humans with FACE PAINT! *shudder* They didnt look like cats at all. The only one who sorta did was the Snarf, whom I wanted dead from the first episode on.
Also, and this may raise some ire, I firmly believe the ONLY, and ONLY reason people look back fondly on Thundercats, was the OPENING animation. It really rocked. And when you talk to any thundercat fan they always point out how "awesome" the opening was. Then ask them about what made the episodes themselves good, and I guarantee you they'll have to stop and think about it for a moment.
You want a really good show intro? I use LOST as an example. That's a GOOD SHOW ( as opposed to a good OPENING TITLE SEQUENCE ) It's the content of the SHOW you should worry about.
So my point, for anyone ready to freak out, is that the animation back then was poor. The plots were poor. the acting was ATROCIOUS. Even if you're WORRIED about the new Thundercats stinking, at least you have the old show on DVD. So why stress?
Why was the original Thundercats so good you ask? Two names. Rankin and Bass. That is why the original Thundercats was good. I loved the laughable villains and Mummra despite his uselessness was pretty badass. He had a cool voice and the three mutants had entertaining personalities/voices. The Thundercats themselves were lacking in acting skills but they were still cool characters and yes the plots were cliched but it was more interesting to use cat people plus Cheetara was hot!
This new show sounds like crap to me, mostly because I don't like the idea of them taking older characters and making them teens (like the new x-men cartoons/movies/ultimate comics) and Snarf as the leader? Oy vey. Oh well I bet Cheetara will still be hot...a little young if they're teenagers but still hot none the less.
Well, Thundercats was already kind of crappy to begin with. I never really could understand that show. Not when I was five, and not now when I'm 21. At least they aren't butchering Bucky O'Hare or Smurfs, which would undoubtably be a worse senario.

When 'Rock Band' comes to mind, Josie and the Pussycats is what springs to mind. Rock music today just isn't the same.
Although I loved that movie to pieces, the music was rubbish.
And these guys would definately be glam rock. Glam rock is awesome haha.
And why do people -insist- on taking tails away? I must be really pathetic or sad or something but I dig tails, and cats without tails is just a disaster. What the hell is the use of being half cat when you can't balance?
And I don't remember the show. I know what it is, of course, but I haven't seen it since I was small so I don't remember it well.
