I will investigate it, no doubt. Last time I bought a ticket two months ahead of time, and it was $300 for a round trip.

Your coming from a far location, so that's why the price is higher for you. I live a few states from Texas so I only paid 176 for a round trip this past a-kon

I'm in central New Mexico. 700 miles from Dallas. That's a mere 90 minute flight. As soon as ticket sales for June open up, I'll let you guys know what the price is.

I know, but it differs based on the distance. How far are you from Dallas?

Did you get a conformation e-mail? THATS what you need to get your badge at A-kon.

Just print out that e-mail and bring it with you to A-kon. You'll get your badge there. (After waiting in line for about an hour. :o )

Oh...you mailed a check? Hmm...I think you'll be getting something back in the mail. Some sort of "ticket stub." I always use their online service and PayPal to get mine.

Actually, giving out credit card numbers online is no riskier than using them anywhere else; any time you use the card in public, someone is looking at the number. And, if you pay by check via regular mail, you're not immune either. Lots of bills get stolen and the information used by identity thieves. It's a misconception that identity theft happens primarily online.

It's true. I would say that putting a check or cash in the mail is much riskier than using most digital payment systems. (as long as you are using trusted channels like paypal, etc.) You never know who will get their hands on your letter before it reaches its destination if you mail it.

As long as you are careful, you should be fine.

With online registration, your confirmation email IS your ticket. (Those of you who registered online, please tell me you saved it. If not, they'll work with you, but it's messy. Howling IV messy.)

Ok... I've crunched the numbers, looked at the flights, and I have concluded...

I CAN attend A-Kon 18!!!!!! :VERYcaf: YAY!

As an added bonus, I've found a loophole at work that can guarantee I get the requested days off. So no repeat of last year. I can afford to miss one day of work if the worst happens, but supposedly it will not happen again.

The only thing I don't have yet is a roommate to help share the cost of renting the room. I certainly can't afford the entire cost of a hotel room in downtown Dallas. I'll be making calls to some of my friends in Texas that are also going, but at the moment I have no idea what my room situation will be.

Glad to hear you are going to make it, assuming you can find a room mate, which I am sure you will be able to do. Now all we need is to hear that Fig can make it and it will be all the same fun we had last year, but with some new faces. Does anyone know if Apharo will be there though? he seems to have dropped off the face of the Earth....

I saw Apharoh at Oni, so he is indeed alive :P

Daniel and I were thinking about sharing a room with a couple packmates. We'll see how that works out. I was fine staying with my friend, but he didn't really want to do that again.

I officially start with Exxon on February 19th. When they ask what days I want off for my vacation.....I'm going to ask if the 1st weekend of June is available. If it is...then I'm going to A-kon!!

If not.....I'm going to ask whoever has it if he can trade days with me. If he says no...then I won't be able to go. If he says yes....then I'll be able to go. Right now....I don't know what is going on. Thats why I'm not sure if I'll be able to go to A-kon as of yet.
