Dear God. . . And Camp Lycanthrope still hasn't been financed. . . Why?
Seriously Matt, consider this a good sign. If Hollywood remains devoid of originality to the point that they crank out remake after remake that systematically get crappier and crappier, by the time all of us finish our respective scripts and storyboards, we're all going to look like freaking Spielbergs by comparison.

That actually makes slightly more sense because there's a plot you can sort of build off of and update; it'll be comparable to, say, the remake of Transformers I think. Alvin & The Chipmunks, on the other hand, is more or less just a cute concept -- they'll need to come up with a plot to justify making it a movie.Figarou wrote:Thundercats and He-man is also going to hit the big screen.
So I think the Chipmunks movie will be comparable to, say, the first Garfield movie -- a few five minute clips reminiscent of the comic strip, and one great big festering turd of a central plot.
Didn't they already make a He-Man movie in the 80's or something? Maybe the 90's?Figarou wrote:Thundercats and He-man is also going to hit the big screen.
Alvin & the Chipmunks should stay cartoon style.

Oh.
Good.
Lord.
Well, they finally did it. After years an' years of beatings an' torture, they gave originality the killing blow. Told it ta bite the curb an' then stomped on its head.

Sure, I could have stayed, could have even been king. But in my own way...I am King. (grabs girl) Hail to the king, baby!

Those can actually make good live-action films. 100% CG animated, no. 100% 2D animated, hell yes. But a mix of live and CG, maybe. Neither of those shows ever had a very good plot to begin with anyways, except in the two or three part episodes.Figarou wrote:Thundercats and He-man is also going to hit the big screen.
In any case, Hollywood is natorious for being scared to death of anything original, and butchering classics. (Yes, more so than the modern Disney studios.) If you want anything even remotely original anymore, you'd better write a damn good top selling novel for a film adaptation ten years after the publication. Or... work for a company like Pixar.
Lurking softly, reading your posts, loving your ideas...

True..... "Thundercats" and "He-man" could be a lot better than Alvin & The Chipmunks. I was pointing out a few more films adapted from a cartoon.
I also heard "Speed Racer" will be on the big screen.

Speed Racer is gonna be the Wachowskis, though, so that might end up tolerable. Maybe they'll go the Transformers route and mature the storyline a bit (or at least that's what it looks like they did there - haven't seen it).
