Guys,

Recently, it has come to my attention that one or more people on this board have been logging into the chat room as Matt Sullivan. Also, they appear to be using my yahoo messenger identity as well to add me to other people's lists. In some cases, these appear to be pedophiles and other unusual people I would rather not be associated with.

I have my suspicions as to who may be doing this. There are a number of people on this board who don't like what I have to say. And hey, if it turns out that the person(s) responsible are doing this just because they don't like what I have to say about animals, politics, or whatever, you should know that if this s*** doesn't stop, I have every intention of tracking you down and prosecuting whoever is responsible. CUT IT OUT.

IDENTITY THEFT in all forms, is a crime punishable by JAIL!

And I am really vindictive when it comes to this kind of thing. I am worried that someone is out there, using MY name to create some false impression of me. Saying and doing things....God, i don't even want to think about it.

Anyway, if any of you have been talked to by someone with my name, who has been saying or doing things that are uncouth, confrontational, or just plain WRONG, please e-mail me at beerbeastredux@yahoo.com. Because who knows, someone might decide they don't like the things YOU have to say, and YOU might be the next victim of this.

Admitingly, some of us have used various names as a joke on the Pack Chat once or twice, but know who it is at the time we're doing it. "Harmless impersonations" with intent of humor. I havn't noticed anyone impersonating you on the chat, but I know a few questions I could ask that only you can answer. Thus... I am sure I can catch them in the act.

I'm the one that posted the rules for these chatrooms when I first uploaded that older java setup...

Rules:
This chatroom is not monitored constantly. Report any problems in the New Chatroom to a moderator, or to Mr. Brownrigg. Any problems or complaints with the Old Chatroom should be brought to my attention. Do not abuse the chatrooms by insulting others or causing harm with malicous intent in text. Do not use these chatrooms for financial gain, or for sexual solicitations. You may be banned, or (based on the seriousness of the situation) reported to authorities.

I will modify these rules to accomidate identity theft. I had no idea it would get as bad as you say.

The thing is, whenI turned on my messenger today, I had all these "add to messenger list" requests froma ll these strange people.

Now, if someone is out there doing petty stuff like that, what's to stop them from logging into some pedophile chatroom and using my name to e-mail child pornography to some underaged kid ( Sorry, I have a wild imagination and watch too much of 'TO CATCH A PREDATOR" on msnbc lol )

I am really concerned about this. In a worse case scenario, I have to repot the misuse of my screenname to all appropriate authorities, make an all-new identity, and stop posting at EVERY board I post at ( including the Pack ) I'll never be able to post here again. While I'm sure that would make a few oversensitive peopole happy, I sure won't be, because I enjoy it here.

In regards to your messenger account, The Pack may not be responsible. I understand the suspision though. The management here is only responsible for monitoring what happens in the Pack chatrooms. I suggest you delete your yahoo messenger account and start fresh before it gets serious.

I never liked the new Pack Chat due to the lack of security. The old chatroom I set up allows you to register your name so nobody else can use it.

Due to these recient events, I suggest a vote to replace the link on the main page with one that goes to my chatroom instead. The security issue puts us all at risk, plus spam bots can't access my chat.

Hey-everybody! If you run across someone using Matt's login-challenge them immediately! If you aren't satisfied, do the thing and goto Kaebora's P.M. and report it! I think Matt will forgive you if you accidentally report him, all things considered.
Yeah, Matt's a bit abrasive at times-but stealing his identity is lower than snail crap, in this person's estimation.
Any of you Were-Geeks out there have any ideas on how this slimeball could be traced?
Why should you care?
Because-if "someone" gets away with this once-it'll happen again, only to some other Forumite. That will get the chat board shut down for sure-maybe that's what this sludgebrain wants.
It could also extend to the Forum itself. Unless Matt uses a different login to the chatroom; his Forum posts could also be compromised-again with continuing and fatal results to The PACK'S message boards.
This has to be stopped; and stopped hard.
Matt's at risk here. If there's trouble, the cops won't be swayed with Matt's "It wasn't me-it was someone using my login" They've heard that one before- a lot. Believe me-only actually catching the slimebag that was the one using one of my logins as cover kept me off of "Megan's list" here in Kalifornia.
Obviously this one hits me right where I live.
Matt: If you have any idea who it is, or might be; tell Kaebora! You don't want to go through what I went through.

I have NO control over what happens in the New Chatroom. I only have admin control in the Old Chatroom. We can make a log of offenses, but can't do anything to stop a person from logging on with a particular name.

I'm very serious when saying we should toss out the new chat and link to the old one. The only downside is that mine doesn't have those nifty sound effects. What it does have is the ability to password protect the name of your choice (which also eliminates spambots), and my administrative abilities there let me ban or delete people that are doing inappropriate things. Which means... if someone steals someone's name and tells me, I can delete it so the right person can claim it. I don't know if AB has those admin abilities in the newer chat, but he's never there to manage things if he does.

Scrap the new chat and keep the more secure old one, then link it to the main page. Who favors this idea?

Matt... the only times I remember seeing you in the chat in the last month or so, you were talking about your script so I'm fairly sure it was the real you... You also weren't saying or doing anything untoward that would bring you into disrepute.

Kae... I've tested out your old old chat room and it seems to work OK. (And if you aren't absolutely certain that the Midnight that signed on is me, just email the email address I used to sign up and I'll reply back once my brother's domain does its technomagical email forwarding sort of thing). I'll be sad to see the end of the current pack chat (but then again, I won't be sorry to see the end of the spammers that spent so much time trying to break up the conversations).

If someone were to steal your identity beacause they did not like to hear what you have to say, it would be childish. Furthermore, it would suggest that they are intimidated by what you say. It may even suggest that they are afraid they will end up being persuaded by you.
This would be one step beyond someone saying "You are stupid!" (This is not a valid argument.)

Of course someone could not have an opinion on what you say and are just being malicious. Wicked or dangerous(careless) people.

I may disagree with some or many of the things you have said but I would not be foolish about it.

Geez that sucks pretty bad. I hope this stops man because we would hate to see you go. I know you've talked about before but I can't stress enough how much we would miss you Matt. I hope you do find the offending person and put their a** in jail. I just can't believe it's a fellow pack member. Whoever is doing it should be frickin ashamed and they need a swift kick in the a**.

It may not be a Pack member. Maybe its someone who lurked around and decided they didnt like Matt or something. Anyone can get on the Pack Chat right?
