Freeborn, HOD, CL status?
Hi all. I used to post around here quiet a lot. I'm too busy these days to spend time on forums but I thought I would pop in and see if there are any new developments on these projects, particularly Freeborn. Is is any closer to being made? Last time I checked in, they had begun doing photomanipulations on a model of a werewolf transformation.

Re: Freeborn, HOD, CL status?
You can view most of my updates via the HOD thread. I really wish there was more that I could say, but I really don't have any new news. The fact is, I've moved on from HOD (not that I don't care about the project...BUT, I have more stories to work on than just that one.)
See guys, this is the reality of the film industry. Just because you write a really good script, doesn't mean that you will find instant success. It is a long hard arduous road, but it is a road worth taking.
I firmly believe that Hour of Darkness will see the light someday, hopefully someday soon, but in the mean time I continue to network and finish other scripts.
Thanks for caring though. It does help knowing there are people out there who really care about our projects!

Camp Lycanthrope is once again in the semi-finals of the PAGE international screenwriting contest. We'll see if anything comes of it. Like Alphanubilis, I'm also working on other scripts and balancing my job at Fox animation.

Would I be off mark to suggest it involves Cleveland somehow?

Well not winning one contest doesn't make the script dead, after all you did ask for feed back, so they should give you an actual reason this time for not making it. Having said that, I would shelve CL for a while, and continue focusing on finishing your other projects, namely Orphan, to get other material out there. As you know, this is what I am already doing. If somebody gets interested in another project (not always the project you were expecting) and you get a sale, somebody down the road might take notice on CL... You get enough clout you can get it produced on your terms and not on the constructs of somebody else who might not do the project right.MattSullivan wrote:Damn. Failed to make finals. Also remember Matt, that even IF you made it to the finals or even won, it wouldn't guarantee the screenplay getting made.
Still you can't argue the fact that a werewolf script went all the way to the semifinals.

I take it that's rare?alphanubilus wrote: Still you can't argue the fact that a werewolf script went all the way to the semifinals.
I'm a novel writer myself, not a screenwriter (though I've thought about it), so I wouldn't know an equivalent for this contest you were in.

When you consider how poorly crafted 90% of werewolf related material that has been made, it should be a surprise to see a werewolf flick that is enjoyable. CL has loads of potential.

Just keep in mind that werewolves are going to rise in popularity over the next year so they'll be looking specifically for werewolf stuff not too long from now.

I don't think you should leave the project behind. Though I haven't read the script it's obviously pretty good since it made finals twice. Like someone else said, maybe you should just shelve it for now and dust it off again when the time seems right.

No one is ever going to buy this script. At least I'm being realistic about it.

More like pessimistic, but then again, you are Matt. :p Wouldn't want you any different.MattSullivan wrote:No one is ever going to buy this script. At least I'm being realistic about it.
I believe somebody will buy the script, when that time comes. However, I also believe that it is time to move on to other projects. Get them off the ground, make a few more contacts, and then when the time is right, you'll still have CL to pitch. Tossing it away, cold turkey, would have made all of your efforts in vain.

Re: Freeborn, HOD, CL status?
I second that. You should shelve CL and put your creativity towards other projects. Actually, you seem to need it if you aren't to fall into depression. Perhaps, some day CL will be pitched giving quite a few Pack Members a reason for a happy dance, but until then try to do things that give you a more immediate payoff - financial or emotional. You're an artist, aren't you? You need to express yourself as broadly as possible!

Re: Freeborn, HOD, CL status?
I'm working. Thank goodness for that. But yes, it's tough to work so hard on something and nothing comes of it. Still, I am very slowly coming out of my funk and today i resumed work on Orphan Star. I stopped for a while because I saw the Avatar trailer and there seemed to be "similarities" to work around.
