It's coming right at us! Ahhh!!! (jumps out window)
And it's projected path puts it into the gulf, directly towards the Texas coast!
Either it veers off and hits Louisiana, adding insult to injury, or it barrels through Galveston, Houston, and my own home, forcing all the evacuees here to evacuate AGAIN. Either way, we're screwed. And, there's a good chance I may be offline for a few days at the end of the week because of this.
And, I thought last year's season was bad.

I am in the process of packing up and evacuating. Love to stay and throw duckies, but it's now a category 5. So, if you're close to me, go where I'm going--anywhere else.
If all goes well, I should be back early next week. If not, it could be awhile.
Take care, and hope to get back to you soon.

I bid good luck to you Scott. I'm worreid, this is a strong hurricane and is going to probally hit hard, I hope that anyone near there gets out and gets out now! Run! Run to Ohio with us where we are safe! I hope everyone makes it out in time, there is no reason people be taking this lightly and staying, expecialy having an example to go by, and Katrina was only a 4. Please, stay well poeple. Though I also hope that the city isn't destroyed, I hope your town and houses and things stay okay.

I really don't understand how bad you people must have it. We got a storm the other night and you can imagine, I'm wrapped up tight in my blankets wondering if I'll live to see tomorrow. Ofcource I did, and I feel silly now, I love thunderstorms, yet I do get scared. Makes you think on how much we are controlled by nature, how strong and powerful these things are, they're Amazing!
We Ohioans manage to get some nasty thunderstorms here and there, yet luckily barely any tornadoes, and never a hurricane.
Good luck Figarou, Scott, and anyone else in the path! Figarou; for your safety, I would love for you to get out, it may turn out to be a waste of time and a false alarm, but if your still pretty much in the path, just getting a hotel for a couple nights might be nice.

Figarou and myself are pretty far inland. (Driving to the coast takes a couple of hours.) I'm not sure how strong the winds will be around here.outwarddoodles wrote:Good luck Figarou, Scott, and anyone else in the path! Its not the high winds I'm worried about. Its the tornados, flooding, and lightning. The house next door was hit not to long ago.

Thanks....but all hotels are book solid. I'm going to do a lot of driving just to find a place to stay.

The people in New Orleans were right on the coast in a city below sea level. I'm 200 miles inland and >100feet above see level. My house won't be flooded out and they aren't going to have to resuce me with a helicopter.
(And if I were closre to the coast, I would have evacuated all the way to Las Vegas now.)

I personally wouldn't worry. If you live on a hill the flooding is the worst part Only because when it is over it will be hard to leave. If you have a lightning rod or cunductor you should be okay. Tornadoes on the other hand have trouble going ou steep surfaces. If the clouds are pushing away from you, it shouldn't bother you. Thats it...............
