My New Toys

Post by Renorei »

So. I went to a Celtic Festival Saturday. :D I have a lot of Irish in me, but I've never really payed much attention to the culture, so I was really glad I got to go. They had good Irish music (not bagpipes, ugh), log-throwing, people in costume, food, lots of celtic jewelry, clothing, music, and...weapons. Speaking of which, I bought a massive broadsword and a dirk.

My broadsword, when I stand it beside me, comes up to my upper chest (and I'm 5'7", so that's saying something). It has a brown leather handle with metal wrapped around it. The hilt has 'macleod' engraved on it. (Macleod was an important Irish clan). It also has many intricate designs. It has a nice, sturdy pommel. It's heavy as hell. It's dull, as many decorative swords are. However, in celtic history, a broadsword didn't have to be that sharp anyway. They would swing it like a club, and the weight of the sword and the force of the swing did the damage, not the sharpness of the blade.

My dirk's sheath is stainless steel with many intricate carvings, many sections of which are painted gold. Also, there are blue stones embedded in certain areas. The hilt has some kind of weird, scary face design on it, and many designs similar to those on the hilt. Blue stones for the eyes of the face.

If I can ever get hold of a digital camera, I'll post pics. Do any of you have an cool items related to old cultures? Weapons? Jewelry? Pottery? Etc., etc. Post away!

Its a werewolf sword holder.

I saw these at ebay at one time. I'm not sure if they still have them there. I did a search and didn't find any.

My family does, but sadly, I don't have any of them in my possession... I'll be making my own collection down the road I guess. :/

As far as old European weaponry goes, I'd like to get hold of a nice scramseax blade. They look pretty neat.

I'd love to get some japanese or Chinese weapons (pretty much any Asian weapon). Maybe some katanas, a set of nunchuks, a bo staff, various other old martial arts weapons. That would be cool.

Also, I wouldn't mind having a mace or a big pike.

Well my katanas in japan are worth 30-80k$ each US

Not cheap since they are circa 1400, 1700, 1800.

expensive heh. Not going to sell tho too much history. The newest one-1800 or so was given to my grandfather by Emperor Hirohito.
