Demented "art"
Earlier today, I brought up the Hufu thing somewhere else and I said it was pretty nasty. The other replied if I thought that was nasty that I should see his hero's "art" It's very strange and somewhat disturbing.
I'm warning you, click... if you dare. It's WEIRD!

The first one is definately weirder...and almost uspeakably disturbing.
...corpses are not art...combining them like that is just gross.

Note: Don't be wondering these sites, most of the artists of these works make not-safe-for-work if you get my meaning. Someone else pointed me to these links.

Eeeeewwww...
The work of a demented mind, for sure...
...but still not in the same league as doing that with the preserved corpses of actual dead babies.
...that's just so...
Why am I involved in this topic again?
At least the Fast Food one was funny.
(trust me...I've dreamed up far stranger things than buffed up fast food icons in fighting poses. ...it's not that weird.)

I'm all in for 'weirdness', and I usually don't get creeped out. Yet those last two pictures Hamster posted were disgusting. I know those are fake babies (or atleast they better be!), but thats just....weird.
Bah!

Yes that is a real baby's head grafted onto a real bird's corpse, that's why I finder much more disturbing than what you showed.Hamster wrote:Wait a sec! That's a real live DEAD BABY!!!??! A lot of people start getting touchy when you start doing stuff to human bodies. I've got mixed feelings myself, but you're talking to someone who champions genetic engineering, and who's done human dissections in medical school. That will give you weird dreams.
Taking a Gestalt approach, since it's the "in" thing...

I think that, if the message or intended effect behind the piece is a good enough or strong enough one, then using dead body parts in such a way is acceptable.
This is what he said about his piece:
Quite frankly, I don't think that's a good enough reason to make such a piece.
(For example, "A Modest Proposal" by Jonathan Swift dealt with a very controversial topic, that being the consumption of babies. However, he didn't just do it for no reason. By writing that story, he introduced many ideas for making the living conditions of people at the time better. In other words, he worked with controversial subject matter for the purpose of bringing about positive change.)
If an artist is trying to make some kind of positive change or make a powerful statement with their work, I think it is ok for them to use materials such as this in this way. For example, if that guy had used the fetus head in a piece that delivered a strong pro-life message, that might be acceptable. But, judging by that half-a** reason he gave, I quite frankly think that he wanted to make some kind of weird disturbing artwork and then later created a justification for it.
My verdict: thumbs down
As for those dollmeat things...yeah, those are pretty freaky. But, I gotta say that I kinda like 'em. Particularly "abstinence". I've never seen a more literal example of that bible verse (which was, most likely, the inspiration for the piece.)
This is what he said about his piece:
"It's precisely because I respect all life that I did this," artist Xiao Yu said Tuesday. He said the bird and fetus "died because there was something wrong with them. ... I thought putting them together like this was a way for them to have another life."
Quite frankly, I don't think that's a good enough reason to make such a piece.
