The soundtrack of things to come

So, is this going to help or hurt the doldrums of the music industry?

Does this mean that everything will be even more formulaic, because that's what we seem to want?

And, is it entirely a bad thing? If iTunes can look at my list of favorite songs and pick out something with similar harmonics, finding music that has a lot of the same flavor as stuff I like, could it help me find stuff that I'm missing?

Or, will it mean that in order to get marketed, musicians are going to have to imitate popular bands as much as possible?
Taking a Gestalt approach, since it's the "in" thing...

There are ways of using anything to find an advantage with it. Right now I'm looking at how I can use it for free (instead of the going rate of $8,000 per album for market research "GAH!").
Everyday should be Towel Day.
