Have i been missing something here?
I've joined the forums not too long ago, and already i've heard terms i've never heard before. More importantly, i have 2 questions:
1) what is "Gestalt"? Is it a scientific term? Is it a term named after an olden-day european noble? Is it a nickname for someone with stilt-legs?
2) What is this "Kalindo" martial arts i've been hearing recently?
If there are any other terms i've not heard here, do tell me. It'd be kinda strange for me to feel like a clueless tourist like those japanese people with very sunny expression blitzing their cameras while sightseeing in those old hollywood movies.
Cheers.

I know that Kalindo was used in White-Wolf's World of Darkness.kitetsu wrote:

Gestalt is just a word that refers to the situation where the whole is more than the sum of its parts. In this situation, we are using to to refer to the werewolf's hybrid form, since that form usually has more to it than an equal combination of wolf and human (imagine the ugly mess that would be).
As for Kalindo, it's a fictional werewolf (Garou) martial arts from Werewolf: The Apocalypse that takes advantage of the ability to shapeshift, along with the other skills that are common to Garou. I don't really know any more about it than that.

Gosh, couldn't they do a bit better for the name of a garou martial art ?
Like Say:
Lupindo
or
Garoudo
or
Wereando
and such like ?

The change, does it wrack the bones and rend the flesh ? Yes, indeed it does. But is this pain and agony alone ? No, in fact hardly at all. It is the Sacrament of the Moon. The flesh flows and so do the endorphins. It is, in truth, the agony ecstatic; The Pain That Is Pleasure

I must assume responsibility for mentioning Kalindo. It's fairly obscure, even in the game, though it also spawned a number of not-very-useful cards in the trading card game Rage.
Kalindo was probably best left in the realm of obscurity. Oh, dopy me.

Taking a Gestalt approach, since it's the "in" thing...

I'm a self proclaimed expert on Werewolf the Apocalypse so...gaming nerd.
Kaliando was a rediculous creation. Basically it was created by this Oriental dominated tribe of Werewolves who wanted to use thier war form (which was already a nine foot tall shredding machine) in Martial Arts - but wait. Since White Wolf's werewolves tie heavily into the Shamanistic animism they used wind spirits to knock around thier opponents for non lethal attacks.
Given the theme of the game, where you could spend "rage" and fly off the handle coating a room in your enemies blood and tattered flesh I never thought becoming a giant bi-pedal wolf and kicking someone with wind fit the flavor.
