I have no clue what this film is about.
But here is an exclusive trailer at Yahoo Movies.

After seeing the trailer, it makes me think Happy Feet is a musical.
BLEH!! No thanks.

Set deep in Antarctica, into the land of Emperor Penguins, where each needs a heart song to attract a soul mate, a penguin is born who cannot sing. Our hero Mumble, son of Memphis and Norma Jean, is the worst singer in the world...however, as it happens, he is a brilliant tap dancer!
There are probably several musical numbers, but there is probably also plenty of spoken dialogue.

Personally, I LOVE musicals. I didn't used to...but they've really grown on me over the years. ...as long as the songs are good.
I think this looks deligtful. I'm going to watch it.

I don't mind one short song. But to have it throughout the whole film?
No thanks.

There are three kinds of musicals:
1) Dippy "Sing Along" musicals (any Disney movie).
2) Cheesy depressing love stories (Evita)
3) Upbeat Hard-To-Sit-Still song n' dances (Grease, Rollbounce)
This looks like the it'll be the latter of the three. The My Way trailer is actually the least convincing of the three. The other two trailers are much more fun to watch (Baby Mumble won me over).
I think this will be next year's Oscar winner for Best Animated picture. Seriously, they've proven to me in the past that they love musicals (Chicago, Moulin Rouge), and they proved to me last month that their easily distracted from hard facts by cute penguins (March of the Penguins). It's like this movie was designed for them!

Evita? Cheesy? Bah!
I loooved Evita. And for me at least, it was always more of a rags-to-riches-and-rise-to-power-story-by-means-that-are-far-more-unsavory-than-usual than a love story. But, maybe that's just me.
That being said, I agree with everything else that you've said. I think Happy Feet will be great, and I think the academy will agree.
If any of you like the story behind Happy Feet, you should check out this old animated movie that was made a while back. It had a similar premise, but it involved a swan and a trumpet.

Hmmm. . . Yeah, maybe Evita wasn't the best movie to represent genre #2 (suddenly I've got Wake Up, Buenos Aires stuck in my head), but it was the first one that came to mind, probably because the song we most remember it for is the one about dying. You know what I mean though, right? Maybe Mas Saigon would have been a better comparrison.
What do you think the Chicago fits in those categories? (.... Yes, I know, propably the only (except Disney's) musical I've ever watched. 'Twas pretty good though)Terastas wrote:There are three kinds of musicals:

About the same way I'd regard Ray and Walk the Line. In all three of cases, I think I would have liked the movies better without the music.Heart of the Pack wrote:What do you think the Chicago fits in those categories? (.... Chicago was a drama, but I'd fit the music in category #2 because it was so horribly dated.

On a few occasions I have run into the trailer for 'Happy Feet' at the movie theaters. I find that for its own sake, I enjoy the trailer a lot. How representative it is of the entire movie, only actual release will reveal.
I am looking forward to it though.

The change, does it wrack the bones and rend the flesh ? Yes, indeed it does. But is this pain and agony alone ? No, in fact hardly at all. It is the Sacrament of the Moon. The flesh flows and so do the endorphins. It is, in truth, the agony ecstatic; The Pain That Is Pleasure
