Werewolves and saliva

in some situations, the saliva could transmit infectious diseases that the WW is immuse... but the saliva could transmit other... in effect, the gifts of BSD ( black spiral dancers in WWa) are oriented in the fact of transmit madness by saliva and bites...

Except those that got bite by something with rabies. Who knows, one Werewolf who runs around the city in wolf form alot, fighting local dogs could get rabies.

A werewolf with rabies?

I could imagine that they could easily <i>act</i> like an animal with rabies to like, scare something off, that would be useful.

But actually having rabies? I pity the werewolf that gets it. Rabies is a virus that when you actually get to the point of foaming at the mouth, dementia,etc, is incurable for both humans and animals, leading to death or severe brain damage. I imagine other neurologically damaging viruses would have similar end results as well.

Sooo....unless I take the overused unexplained fantasy view, or that a werewolf bite= a genetic mutation specialized to when wolf and human genetic information is mixed, that causes disease immunity and [blah blah blah] view , the whole idea of transmitting viruses through saliva/bites, with the power to make somebody go mad, that the werewolf is <i>totally</i> "immune" to.....I really wouldn't have a reason to believe it could happen in a world decently resembling reality.

But lets just say the saliva somehow got mixed with a large batch with hallucinogenic drugs. Then it would maybe work. One bite, and you can take a nice trip into the Magic Theater and meet the Immortals!

(God, that would be something SO odd...and kinda of pointless...but yet something I could see fitting into a book like Steppenwolf, hehe.)
